Belfry is a scary team that could pull an upset, but dont get too high on the high's or too low on the low's. It was a good district win against Lawrence for Belfry no doubt, but we will know more as regional competition progresses and the ranking change. I think Mark Thompson does a better job than he gets credit for despite his record.

Its great to get some discussion and opinions on the 15th though!!!!! Most of the weekly reviews get very little comment. It may not be on par with the rest of the state, but the 15th is fun to watch on a given night and big crowds turn out for alot of these games, creating an awesome atmosphere!

Not to high, they are average in the scheme of things, but they are a matchup problem for anyone in Region and have 3 really nice scoring options.

 

Coach Thompson is a victim of football playing until Dec., a middle school program that is very competitive but doesn't send a lot of kids to the HS program because they choose to play other sports, and a little league program that lacks facilities to practice.

 

With that said I am for 4 team districts and against the super-regional.

I love tradition and history. As some of you get older, you will too.

I like to be able to track a district's and a region's history...scrolling back year-by-year, seeing how long coaches were in one place, who upset whom, what schools make up each consolidation, etc.

And being from a small school (read that "tiny" school) I love the blind draw. Give the little guy at least a small chance of advancing to the district final and the region.

 

In football it frustrates me a bit to try to follow a school's playoff history...when the districts, the number of teams which make the playoffs, and the numbers of classes change as often as they have.

Right now if you have a 28 game schedule, a 16 team region, and are in a 4 team district you really only have 6 games that matter. Truly only those 6 district games for seeding purpose count because tournament success is how your season is judged in the end. If you are unfortunate enough to be in one of the remaining blind draw districts then only 1 game really matters and that's the district opener. March Madness (including late February for high school). You want to build excitement around team all year? Scrap the 4 team district and play each team in the region once thru the year. You just made 15 of your 28 games mean something to both the players and the fans. You get to host 7-8 "district seeding" games per year. Set up boy/girl double headers when travel would allow for it increase the attendance at games. I bet those "old" district games are still heated contests because the vast majority are border county schools or even inter county/city for bragging rights.

I believe so. Certain games count as point towards the tiebreakers. Road wins or something like that. And in the 45th it seems like tiebreakers are used every other year.

Some district's only play each other one time for seeding purposes I know in the 8th region the 30th district teams only play each other once for seeding.

Looks like starting next season Jenkins will move from the 53rd district in the 14 region to the 59th district in the 15 region. Also they way I read it will also be done in baseball, softball, soccer, and volleyball.

I would disagree with the statement that the only game(s) that count are in the post-season. High school sports offers so many learning opportunities that span an entire season...including the pre-season and even the off-season.

 

Life lessons are learned...from following authority (of coaches, teachers, referees, etc.,) to learning your particular sport, to teamwork, to "keeping your head on straight" whether your team is doing particularly well or "particularly not," to learning your physical skills and limitations, to dealing with the physical and mental maturation process in general.

 

And that's just for the athlete who is participating. How about the community needed to take tickets, man the concession stands, play in the pep band, clean the gym, broadcast the games, work at the scorer's table, schedule the games (and make-up games,) etc.

 

It's a season-long series of events that are at least as important as what happens in the tournament.
