Do away with districts all together...I have never liked that format. Split regions into two separate conferences, each team in their respective conference plays each other home and away. Boom, there is your seeding, no need for Calprep rankings and all that crap. One seed in conference A plays bottom seed in conference B, or possibly gets a bye if in an uneven region. There you go, now let's do it.

I have played and watched a whole lot of 15th Region basketball. There's nothing better than a good district rivalry game that actually matters for something. I like the way things are now. It's special to make the region tournament.

JC, Magoffin, Belfry, ER, Sheldon Clark, Pikeville, and SF are better than everyone else. No more than a 10 point spread in any of them on a neutral floor, but Pikeville and SF are the weakest of that bunch.

JC beat East Ridge by 19 (had them down 30 in 3rd quarter and called dogs off) so they are not within 10 points. Pikeville just lost to East Ridge and has been beat by every single quality opponent (average or better) they have played. Belfry got a nice win against LC but that is their best win so far (albeit a tough schedule). It took Belfry OT to beat Bath County at home. South Floyd has talent but has underachieved with some bad losses and the only good win is against a very down Hazard team at home.

 

Now, could anyone get beat on a given night? Yes. Phelps just knocked off Pike Central for their first district win since 2012. I appreciate your input, but will give you the field if you give me the three teams form the 57th as your regional winner.

 

LC had been up in the rankings rightfully so (which was before the Belfry loss) but will fall this week as Belfry will rise.

BY FAR better than these 3-4-5 team districts. Instead of conferences call them "super districts" if that helps.

The winner of this region will come from Magoffin, Johnson Central, Sheldon Clark with Lawrence County being a dark horse (only because they have a kid who can get hot and score 50 on any given night).

Belfry is just getting into any kind of shape. A little over a month of basketball.

 

Pikeville has potential, but has beaten no one.

 

 

SF has under achieved but are dangerous.

 

57th may be strongest but those teams have glaring faults. They have all been exposed outside SC. JC has a 24 point loss and MC has an almost 60 point loss and been clocked one other time.

 

JC and ER has the best coaches in the region.

 

Styles make fights and matchups make ball games.

 

Entire region shoots too many 3's and plays to little D.

Of course the last rankings were before Magoffin took down JC so next week will change if SC holds serve and wins the All-A.

Belfry had a good win against LC, but if you look at the preseason rankings, I had LC rated 7th. What Timmy is doing is really amazing. Shooting such a high percentage and carrying a very young team. Heck, LC lost what was going to be their 2nd best player in Moore to SC and are still very competitive with a bunch of kids who almost zero playing time last year (Again due to Timmy doing what he is doing - kid makes his teammates better).

 

I would venture to say that any team not named JC, SC, or Magoffin would struggle to get 1 win in the 57th district this year and would not be in the regional tournament. Odds are very strong that the 57th Championship will be a 15th Regional final preview.
