January 5, 20179 yr The skid continues. Louisville's now lost six in a row at ND. Get the return game at the Yum Center in the final game of the season.
January 5, 20179 yr Louisville is the only winless team in the ACC. Did not see that coming. Gonna be a crazy year with every conference game.
January 5, 20179 yr Not a fun fact. Mike Brey has gone 8-1 vs. Coach K and Pitino since joining the ACC.
January 5, 20179 yr Author Louisville is the only winless team in the ACC. Did not see that coming. Gonna be a crazy year with every conference game. The whole season is going to be wild. I'm not in as much of a freak out as I would be if it was two teams other than Virginia and Notre Dame. Louisville drops those games every year. If I've learned anything since Pitino became coach, it's that nothing really matters before late January/early February. Even the 2013 championship team dropped three conference games in a row in early January. If they're still struggling when Pitt comes to town in a week, I'll start getting nervous.
January 5, 20179 yr Well I did not think Louisville played that bad it's tuff to beat ND at home. ND went to the rim hard and drew some tuff calls in crucial times. Disappointed in Spalding thought he was going to be a star just hasn't turned out that way just yet.
January 5, 20179 yr UofL should beat ND by double digits in the Yum! if they are progressing as Rick's teams usually do. No clue why Rick played 0 possessions of matchup zone defense in the game. With the aggressive man-to-man defense and switching on all picks, ND was able to get matchups and spread the floor so that once the ball defender was beat, which was VERY often, it was an absolutely wide open path for a layup. I like Mitchell's newfound confidence, but he needs to learn how to control that. Took some shots in the 2nd half early in the shot clock that were ill-advised. He'll learn that being "the man" doesn't mean you have to take every shot. That said, I like confident Mitchell better than tentative Mitchell. Adel was absent much of the 1st half with 2 fouls and struggled to get into rhythm in the 2nd half because of it. That late unforced turnover was painful. Mahmoud has clearly supplanted Mathiang because of his higher ceiling. He has great court awareness and improves with more minutes played. Defense & blocks help shore up some of the defensive deficiencies cited above. Johnson or Spalding need to step up and solidify the 4 spot. Neither has gone beyond flashes of quality. If 1 of them emerges, the playing time will increase as the bench gets narrowed and minutes get allocated among those who demand them.
January 5, 20179 yr Not a fun fact. Mike Brey has gone 8-1 vs. Coach K and Pitino since joining the ACC. Did not know that.
January 5, 20179 yr Louisville is the only winless team in the ACC. Did not see that coming. Gonna be a crazy year with every conference game. Louisville started conference play with the two teams they weren't going to beat, regardless. So I don't put much stock into it, other than it is annoying as hell that we can't beat ND or UVA.
January 5, 20179 yr It's on the road, but Louisville should get back on track this weekend at Georgia Tech. But then they have two tough ones at home. The first half of their conference schedule is really tough.
January 5, 20179 yr It may take another week for them to get over the UK game. It was their superbowl, remember? On the flip side, UK seems to be adjusting quite well.
January 5, 20179 yr UL needs a leader on this team. I thought Snyder might develop as the leader of this team but I think he is uncomfortable with that mantle. Mathiang (I think he is 24 years old) would be the logical leader but if he's not starting then he's probably out. It would also help if they had a reliable scorer. Maybe Mitchell will develop into that. Poor Adel----his basketball IQ is not very high IMO.
