They traded for Reggie Nelson. The Bengals have also traded back in the draft for more picks the year they drafted Zeitler. They really have had no reason to try to trade on draft day the last few years.

 

As for this, I don't trade McCarron just to swap 1st round pucks and move up 8 spots. I only trade McCarron if it gets me an additional first or second round pick. If the best they can get for him is a 3rd rounder or worst, then I don't trade him. Having a backup qb that you can win with, is more important than getting an additional third rounder or worst even if they lose him for nothing after this year. It would take a 1st or 2nd round pick for me to trade him.

OK, I give--The Bengals front office is the most prolific & savviest bunch of draft day traders I've seen since the Cowboys traded Herschel Walker for two Super Bowls!!

 

My point was the Bengals rarely trade, unless a player forces their hand; or they are so confused on draft day as to who they want; that they trade down to regroup. Good news is with Marvin back and Mikey still at the helm; this mediocracy will continue (well until it doesn't--reference 2016 season).

Marvin Lewis talking about McCarron yesterday said McCarron has the "it" factor towards him. That he is also so dang gone competitive and makes other players around him better and raises others play.

 

While Lewis has said a lot of great things about Dalton, he never said anything like that. In fact yesterday he also talked about how Dalton, Green, and Atkins need to take more of a leadership role with the team and be more vocal because they are quiet guys by nature. While Dalton became more confident under Hue he still wasn't as vocal as a leader.

 

Looking at those comments you wouldn't think Dalton was the starter. It's stuff like that is why I am willing to take a risk on Dalton.

To be fair I admit playing McCarron is a risky and scary move for a coach trying to keep a job. Even if he believes McCarron has "it" no one still knows for sure how he would do in a full year. So I admit it's easy for me to sit here and say I'm willing to take that risk. However as a coach it is tough. However some of the best coaches do take those risk.

My guess is that wouldn't be enough based on past trades. Browns would need more.

He has the it factor but never touched the field this year.

That's a "no brainer" one is a franchise QB , the other isn't at this time and may never be. AD WILL NOT be on the market, take it to the bank. Nor should he be. I wouldn't take two #1's for him. These guys are hard to find. Ask, the Browns, Jags, Rams, Texans, etc.

AD is far from franchise qb. He is ranked

around 19-20'th in the NFL QB's. That is not a franchise qb, more of a

below avg qb.

Marvin's job isn't on the line. Never has been. Mike Brown wasn't going to fire him this year and I said he wouldn't even before the season started. Mike Brown will never pay 2 HC's next year while Marvin is under contract. Marvin has next year garunteed.

 

If he was getting fired fired it would have happened already.
