WYMT's Top 10

Featured Replies

Overall I agree with that top 10 except I think Somerset is better than Harlan

Somerset is probably the best 0-4 team in the state, but to be ranked you have to win. I know that there is a lot of football to play but I look for the Somerset/Harlan game to be for the district championship. I look for Somerset to reverse our slide next week against Cumberland.

Let the discussion begin.

The only problems I see are:

SOuth Laurel should be there ahead of Southwestern. Both have the same record and SL just beat SW. Does anyone really think if Harlan and SL played that SL wouldn't win???? So SL should definately be in there.

Also, I think Rock should have dropped more than a spot with a loss. At this point, I'd say Bell is ahead of SL. The Bobcats played Henry Clay close in their only loss. Rock's loss to Lincoln is a little suspect right now. I'm sure LC is a quality team, but not like Henry Clay.

:fight: Well we may never know, but Harlan is there and S. Laurel isn't.

Pikeville will have their chance to get back in the moutain top 10 when Belfry comes to town next week...if Pikeville wins that game they won't lose again until Thanksgiving Day Weekend imo...

What's the early line on the Belfry/Pikeville game??

Pikeville has South Floyd at home next week.

Belfry will come to town the following week.

Belfry has to be the favorite but I don't know what the line would be...just a guess out of left field I will say Belfry would be favored by 12-14 points. Belfry has won the past 5 matchups(2001-2005)after Pikeville had won 3 staright in the series(1998-2000)...so the Panthers are due for a win over Belfry but they will have to play a great game to beat their cross-county rival. The past few years this game hasn't even been that close but I don't think it will be the case this year...I expect it to be a very good game this year.

That is correct.. I didn't make that clear, my bad. When I said Belfry comes to town next week, I meant a week after this upcoming week.

Pikeville is good and they desperatley need Mayo back. Without Mayo I say Belfry will hand them a L. Especially if Belfry can keep passing game up. One team I believe will move up throughout the reaminder of the year is Middlesboro. In my opinion they should go unbeaten in their district.

I'm pretty sure Mayo won't be back for the Belfry game and may not be back at all this season unless some things have changed in the past few days that I haven't heard about. He's a great kid with a bright future, already getting a 31 on the ACT. Pikeville will no doubt miss him and the leadership he brings but IMO they will miss him more on defense than offense.

Definitely he is an awesome person and he is still a huge Part of this panther football program. Undoubtly mayos Skill and leadership will be missed but pikeville will be ready for belfry without him on the field.

JCHS deserves to be #1, no doubt.

I thought Rock would have dropped further.

Southwestern lost to South Laurel, but the only reason that SL hasn't moved back into the top 10 yet is the 2 blowout losses they had. Granted to very good teams, but still.

Somerset is the best 0-4 team I have seen. They have played a rough schedule, but I expect this week, they will fix that 0-fer!

I think Bell Co is the best team in the mountains, if I were ranking I would have them #1

I agree. I watched them play Henry Clay, and I felt like they should have won the game.

Coach Hilton has always had a strong ground game and good defense. These two things win championships at all levels. However, this year Bell has added a more diverse offense with solid passing. Special teams play, especially the kicking game, are on track. Few mountain teams have a strong kicker. Another post related that Rockcastle lost last week due to three missed extra points. Bell's kicker did not kick to Minnefield. Hilton turned loose the kicking game against Letcher. Bell's kicker was 8-8 PAT's and had seven touchbacks on kickoffs. Bell is young and getting better every week.
