I believe Finfrock led Highlands with 20+....He had 15 at the half.

 

Birds led in the 3rd 42-33 and Holmes went on a nice run to take the lead of which they would not relinquish.

In the JV game the Birds Tristan Thompson drilled 2 FT's with 35 sec left to put them up 52-49. Bulldogs scored a quick bucket to cut it to 52-51. Birds missed a layup that would have extended the lead to 3 with 15 sec left and then committed a foul sending the Bulldogs to the line where they hit 1/2 to tie the game.

 

The imploding Birds then threw a pass away to the Dogs who proceeded to drain a 3 with 2 sec left. Game over JV Dogs win 55-52.

Nice debut by Rico Hollis tonight for Holmes.

Maybe a change of scenery has done him well, didnt he get kicked off the Newport squad last season?

Green was very impressive running the court for a big. Looks much more coordinated this year. Hollis can score in bunches. Really enjoyed watching Saxon in the JV game.

Birds played good, but congrats to the Dawgs on the nice comeback.

 

Since it was the 1st game for both there were quite a few things that you would expect to see.....too many missed gimmes (especially Holmes) and turnovers. Both teams got after it on both sides of the court.

 

If game one is any indication how the season will go for the Birds, If they are open from anywhere on the floor, they will launch from distance. I was really impressed with the play of Finfrock, he is a load down low. His size only is enough to warrant the ball in the paint on EVERY trip down the floor. Unfortunately the Birds failed to get him the ball in the 2nd half, as they did in the 1st......but give the Dawgs defense some credit for that.

 

Jaiden Greene for the Dawgs is going to give some teams fits with his length and ability to drive to the glass and Hollis is a very nice addition to the Holmes line-up. The Dawgs definitely have the talent to run the floor.

 

I know it's only the 1st game, but this Birds team looked a lot better than last year's.

Both teams played extremely hard. The big guy in the middle for Highlands has a nice touch, he just got a little tired late. Holmes was all over the floor on loose balls. You could tell it was a first game for both, many turnovers. Green for Holmes is much improved, Rico Holas ads speed and scoring for Holmes. Best of luck to both.

Nice meeting you too allsport71. You and Lawnboy's analysis are spot on. Regardless of first game cobwebs this game was fast paced and entertaining from start to finish. Both teams gave it their all, and after a little bit of work should be worthy opponents for "almost" any team in the 9th. No matter what, some nice competitive basketball should be found all around the 9th this year and not just by the assumed Top 4.

 

The long wait is over and it's great to see the hoops season back in action...should be an exciting year!

Finfrock had a monster game 20+ and I would venture close to 20 rebounds. LaFrange had 10 points and 12 or so rebounds and all his points came in the first 10 minutes and then got Hollis the rest of the game for a tail. To many turnovers for the Birds; however Holmes plays defense very well. Holmes Green much improved. They got to the rim to easy. However I did state don't sleep on these birds as they were up 9 in the third with a few tired seniors, Holmes made a big run when starters went to bench. A nice first game for both.
