How many 6 win teams are left at home? Its all about the money. nobody attends them and nobody watches them.

Loved when ND turned one down a few years ago. Said it wasn't enough money and they would have lost money to attend.

Turning a bowl game down is stupid. Yeah it's about the money to the game and the school, but the team it is invaluable for getting ready for next year. The bowl game practices are where you get the guys you redshirted that year into the fold and get them experience in that environment. Basically you're getting a head start on next year. Unless you are in the playoff, that is what these bowl games are used for now.

No 6 win teams are left at home. In fact there will be a handful of 5 win teams in order to fill out all the bowls.

A premier team in an off year would not benefit from going to a toilet bowl game. It's great for all of the mediocre teams. but not worth the millions of dollars it costs for programs to lose money on the bowl game. The $$ is huge to pack up the team, cheerleaders, band, etc and put them up and feed them.

Unfortunately there are too many bowl games to make this possible.

 

I do wish there was a requirement that all teams are required to play at least one (maybe two) non-conference games against another Power 5 school to be eligible for a BCS Bowl. Most probably accomplish that now, but at one point it was a struggle.

Interesting premise....If we do the two, the P5 schools eligible this year would've been:

 

ACC

Clemson

Florida State

Virginia Tech

North Carolina

Pittsburgh

Georgia Tech

Duke

 

Big 12

Texas

 

B1G

Not a single one

 

Pac 12

Stanford

Oregon

USC

 

SEC

Georgia

 

 

So yeah, not very many options. :lol2:

And to clarify, I meant most schools hit the 1 other Power 5 conference requirement. At one time I don't believe that was the case. That is interesting the ACC had so many play 2. The B1G, starting next year, no longer allows there teams to play FCS schools.

I counted Notre Dame as a P5 school. Otherwise, most ACC schools as well as USC, Texas, and Stanford would be off the list.

 

It would actually be Clemson, Florida State, Oregon, and Georgia without ND included.

5 or 6 months of practice is not enough? Especially if you are trying to win the game you will still be playing your seniors or best players.

Just listen to coaches talk about how valuable the bowl game practices are.

No need for me to argue you about it with you. You can think what you want, but those practices are very useful.

I wouldn't give a rip if every team got to go to a bowl. If some company wants to fork out the cash to sponsor one who cares.

Same. I'm legitimately trying to figure out a reason as to why it bothers anyone.
