No one is Wishin..Hopin..Prayin. It's just my opinion. I never said I was for CAL. I just predict them to win. They don't have many weaknesses. They are just all around solid. They are big. We were twice the size of Mayfield last year, but their quickness gave us problems. Cal is big, and fast. I was watching their line, they all have really good footwork, they pick up their blocks really well. If you can't put pressure on Carr, he will pick you apart. Paulson with his 6'7 frame catches anything close. Wright....Well he is just all around good.

Outside of a few plays We played the best game we could. We were tied with 3 min to go. Our defense played their hearts out. Played almost a perfect game except for the one coverage breakdown that lead to a passing score. We lacked that home run hitter this year on offense. Next year we'll be better. I just see this as CAL's year. Nothing against Mayfield. I've seen Corbin this year. This CAL team would handle them.

OK....here goes nothing. This year's CAL team is the best 2-A team I've seen in the last five years, with the POSSIBLE exceptions of DeSales' 2013 team and this year's Mayfield squad. They are big and fierce in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and they will have the two best players on the field. I know how popular that opinion is going to be with the Cardinal faithful, but this should balance it out. I think Mayfield will win the game due to championship experience. This should be a classic - perhaps the best game of the playoff season.

How would you rate CAL's DLine this year versus DeSales DLine last year? MF's Oline is essentially the same, but a year older, wiser, and better. I'm thinking that might be the best metric in figuring out where we stack up.

 

CAL's D-Line this year is head and shoulders above DeSales' line from last year. They're a dominant force up front.

That's very high praise DD.. That 13 Desales team was one of the best 2a teams I'd ever seen. They were big, fast, deep and very good on both sides of the ball. I felt that team could have won 3a and competed toe to toe with the 4a and 5a champion that year. As far as this years Mayfield team, this is probably the 2nd best team in this 8 year run, behind only the 2010 team, but, in saying that, they aren't far behind that bunch. Offensively, pretty equal, but, I'd give this years version a little advantage in skill players because of there size in their WR corp and I think Bright is a better RB than any on the 10 team, but, the 10 team had a more veteran line and a little more speed overall. Defensively, the 10 team would be a little ahead of this years version, but, again, this years D is no slouch and seems to always step up when they need to. If this years CAL team is equal or on par with either of these teams, then, this upcoming game should be a dandy. It'll take that type team to beat this years Mayfield squad.

I thought we had a shot, but no, I wasn't too optimistic. They had the advantage on us this year that we have always had in the past - the ability to run the ball consistently by winning the battle in the trenches. Add to that the two D-1 players that both play big roles in the passing game, along with a big, strong QB....too much for the Colts to handle.

Correction, don't they need to be hitting on all cylinders? What puzzles me is how every time teams get beat they automatically assume the team that beat them can or will win it all? Don't forget MF is the defending 2A Champs, let's not forget that. Let's not forget that they have not allowed more than a TD a game in the playoffs. Don't forget we get better game by game. Please to don't misconstrued my words but we ain't traveling to Louisville to lose. These kids are very humble and treat every opponent, from CAL to Webster County, as a threat to beat them. That coaching staff is unbelievable. Year in and year out mayfield is aways in the conversation for the state title and that starts with coaching staff.

Ok so a 3-7 Highlands put up 53 pts against Simon Keaton who clearly had a running clock against CAL. Desales fans please tell me what I'm missing?? Your telling me that a bad Highlands team, which seems to be rare btw, can put up 53 pts against a team that slaughtered CAL?? So your telling me that in essence a 3-7 regular season Highlands team could beat you guys by 2 touchdowns or more?

 

CAL was fairly young at the QB spot at the beginning of the year, and SK had one of the best offenses in the state. If I remember correctly, this was a pretty close game heading into the midway point of the 3rd quarter. I wouldn't compare scores from the 1st week of the year. I have no clue what CAL or Mayfield have as I haven't seen them. I have seen SK, and I understand how a young team struggled against them in the 1st week of the season.

Haven't you heard, this CAL team would whoop the 91 Redskins in the trenches? Last year, DeSales "was twice the size of MF". That's right, every 250 lb MF kid had to line down against a 500 pounder. And this CAL team is even better than that. You're dreaming bro. No way could any MF team ever hope to hang with a team that bested DeSales by 7 points.

Mayfield has great team speed. On D, they close holes very quickly and they fly to the ball and when they tackle, they do it with a purpose and sound fundamentals. You rarely see them miss tackles in the open field and when they do, there's usually 2 or 3 other players right there to clean up. The O is nearly unstoppable. Not saying it can't be stopped, but, to date, it hasn't been. OB Catholic did about as well as anyone this year, but, I do think that was aided by a pouring rain from start to finish.

In saying all the above, to me, the thing that most impresses me about this team is their mental approach. When they get down or kicked in the mouth, you see absolutely no panic or fear. They're a confident bunch, but, not cocky and they simply play the next play and the next and the next and eventually impose their will on the opposition. I think they play better when a team steps up and gives them a challenge. They seem to focus more and enjoy the competition..

So what does CAL depend on offensively? Are they a balanced team or rely on pass/rush more? All I am hearing about is the passing game.

Lol, yeah I know diesel but they just get me so worked up lol I am a homer/former player so yes I'm MF all the way. One thing I'm not is delusional. There were years that we won state when we thought it was going to be a down year because of how young the team was and they still pulled it out. So trust me when I say whoever the opponent it is these kids and coach will Over prepare for them and because of that I'm confident.
