The ball was snapped, Anthony Moeglin took a knee and it was over.

For the first time since 1989, John Carroll University football stands alone atop the Ohio Athletic Conference.

The Blue Streaks defeated No. 1 Mount Union 31-28 to win the 2016 OAC Championship in Alliance, Ohio, on Saturday.

This marks the fourth title for John Carroll: 1938, 1989, 1994 and now 2016. It is the first JCU win against Mount Union since 1989. John Carroll snaps the 112-game regular-season winning streak for the Purple Raiders dating back to Oct. 22, 2005.

William Woods hauled in the go-ahead score, fighting over the goal-line for a 24-yard touchdown with 39 seconds remaining. The John Carroll defense held strong, stopping the Purple Raiders on four straight plays to set up the victory formation.

If you follow D3 at all, this is a very big deal.

Meant to post this on Saturday when I heard about it. The 112 regular season winning streak is insane. But few people realize that before that, they had one that was 110 games. So, for the last 224 regular season games...they are 222-2. Unreal for any level.

Those are XBox numbers. Unreal.

They still made the playoffs and are on the road in the opener at Hobart College in New York. I think I heard it will be their first road playoff game since 1992. They've played 101 consecutive home playoff games!

When will TMC have to face one of these 2 teams?

Play somebody!

This program is just phenomenal! Even with that, you had to know that they would eventually lose to someone. My son played there until he got hurt about 10 years ago. The current coaches dad was the coach then. They really didn't miss a beat when Vince took over for his dad. I suspect that they will go on another long run of winning in the future.

TMC will face a tough opponent even before they'd get to either John Carroll (potentially in quarterfinals) or Mt. Union (possibly in semi-finals). They've got the #1 seed Wisconsin-Whitewater most likely waiting them in the second round.

This is what's weird to me...Mt. Union, even with the loss, is ranked #8...Hobart is #18. How did they decide who gets to host?

I could be wrong, but I think at-large teams can't host in the first round. There are 25 conference winners and 7 at-large. I may well be wrong about that "can't host" deal, though.

That makes sense. Thanks! :thumb:
