Props to the CovCath team and coaches. Everyone knew they were good last year. Loaded, and experienced, at every position. Other than the fact that CC had never been that far in the tournament, no one was really surprised when it was over.

 

18 players gone from last year. This year, a whole new group of players, a new back line. A challenging schedule. 3 clean sheets on the way to the finals. Shutout a juggernaut in LCA. Despite the fact they came up a bit short, this is probably a more impressive feat. Well done.

 

That's exactly right. Last year's team was loaded with senior talent. In the final I think only 2 non-senior starters and it may have been only one but I don't recall. To get back to that spot after losing so much speaks to the players/coaches. CCH returns 6 starters for next year as well as 3-4 juniors/sophomores who contributed quite a bit to varsity. Great season for those kids getting within a hair of repeating.

Agree 100% Someone also told me that one of the guys who came out for the second set of penalty kicks was a freshman? Was that true? Either way, I like the balance in the program now. After a year like last years very easy to have s year or two to 'recover' Again, Congrats to both teams on excellent seasons!

Yes, freshman Jack Stava (Cole Stava's younger brother) came out in the second group of five to take a PK but didn't get the chance. Kudos to that kid for stepping up. Jack played JV all year and was moved to varsity for post-season but did not see any state tournament action. I expect to see him starting for the Colonels next year.

Congrats to the Frosh for wanting to help his team......................But no one sees anything wrong with a player that played JV all season and then was put on Varsity for the post season but hasn't played at all..............possibly deciding the State Championship with a PK????????

 

I don't care what they do in the rest of the world, the KHSAA is trying to decide a KY State Champion of the sport. There has to be a better way than PKs where players who had no effect on the game could decide it.

I had a better angle than the video and If I told you what I thought about the call, some would call me a homer.

 

So I will say this......the AR was in perfect position and his flag went up as soon as the ball was played to the player......not after the play developed......hard to argue with that.

 

With that said.....and I've already said it, a great team won. A great team lost.

I have no dog in the fight....zero, none, zilch, nada.....there is absolutely no way that guy was in an offsides position.

 

Officials are human. The AR made a mistake. It's a moot point tho. Let it rest.

Offsides or not, it seems there is a lot of objection to PKs to end the game. I understand that but for people who play, coach or have kids that play a lot of club soccer this is the way it is and these are the rules worldwide. The kids in this game, I guarantee have been in PK shootouts before and they know what they need to do. As distasteful as it is, I have no issue with it. I really think non soccer people hate PKs more than people who see this routinely in club tournaments.

KY High school football has an OT process that is different than the NFL, different than the NCAA and even different than Ohio high school. So the state of KY has to have PKs because that is how the rest of the world does it?? That makes no sense.

Well no one has come up with a better way either. Soccer can't just play until they have a winner, it's a much more endurance based sport than most others that use that method. And if you start pulling players then you just have the reverse problem of PKs which players DONT you trust to play the game.

State of Kentucky can decide to end these games however they'd like and they have chosen PK's, probably like every other state. As I said, I'd like to see two 10 or even 15 minute sudden death OT's but no longer than that. I think if you were to poll players they are OK with games ending like this because they know and accept this system and really, there isn't a better one.

No homer, just was in a great position, as was the AR, to see the play and I understand the rules of the game!
