October 28, 20169 yr Im curious to know what everyone thinks. All I hear is the Republicans were the ones who helped back in the day and somehow all of a sudden the shift in party from rep. Why do so many blacks vote Dem? What does the Dem do the Rep dont.
October 28, 20169 yr Neither. Then why does the black community vote overwhelmingly for the Dems? Do the Dems simply lie better?
October 28, 20169 yr Then why does the black community vote overwhelmingly for the Dems? Do the Dems simply lie better? Because the Republican party, in general, comes across as much more anti-Black than do the Democrats. At least in the eyes of most. JMO.
October 28, 20169 yr Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security. And I am aware that the first two wouldn't have happened without Republican votes. But right after those votes, the Republicans developed the southern strategy that they have never abandoned. Hence the shift of the "solid south" to the Republicans and minority voters to the democrats. Lyndon Johnson said that the voting rights act and civil rights act would cost democrats the south for a generation. He was wrong, it was two and counting. Those same two laws gained minorities for the democrats for those same two generations, and still counting. Donald Trump may well do the same for minority immigrants and their descendants.
October 28, 20169 yr Lots of history there. While Democrats were running on making schools better and cities more vibrant (whether or not any of the plans worked), a lot of Republicans were winning elections by screaming about welfare queens and looking to the glorious past, a time that wasn't so great to be black in this country. Someone once told me that the difference between perception and reality is that perception is stronger. The Republicans have made hay by selling themselves in a way that just can't possibly be appealing to a lot of people.
October 28, 20169 yr Your party. No doubt about it, ref. Herman Cain, Clarence Thomas, Ben Carson... your party is all-inclusive... so diverse. Everything your party stands for has benefited blacks tremendously. No wonder blacks vote overwhelmingly for your party.
October 28, 20169 yr Author Because the Republican party, in general, comes across as much more anti-Black than do the Democrats. At least in the eyes of most. JMO. How do they come across that way. I dont see it but I aint black either. There are a lot of very good black Republicans, does the black community not listen to them because they think they act white since its Republicans?

There are a lot of very good black Republicans, does the black community not listen to them because they think they act white since its Republicans? Most racist white people identify as Republicans, I'd say that's why. I agree that there are good black Republicans, but they are few and far between in comparison.

Add in things like trying to re-draw districts in states that are traditional D s are being redrawn by Republican-dominated legislatures, changing voting laws (times , locations, etc) as well as Voter ID laws that , while seemingly logical, will impact blacks more than whites. These all came about after President Obama's landslide victories. Why? Huge increase in black voter turnout. Perception.

But dont we need voter ID to ensure accurate voting and that just nobody can do it.
October 28, 20169 yr But dont we need voter ID to ensure accurate voting and that just nobody can do it. You missed the point. We've always needed laws to ensure voting accuracy. The perception is that it suddenly has become urgent and necessary AFTER record voting turnout among blacks.
