I'll take the win but the Browns are bad. Even worse with a limited Pryor & new QB.

 

Bengals made some stupid mistakes that will cost them in a "win or go home" situation. Roughing the punter (15 yard penalty variety), 2 missed FG's and a careless fumble on an INT return. Those are crucial plays that will seal a team's fate.

 

I only caught one replay of the roughing the punter penalty. In the one I saw it didn't look like he touched the punter. Did I just see a bad angle? Or was it minor contact to the plant leg?

The Seahawks and Cardinals have two of the games top kickers. Last night was the exception, not the rule for them. Nugent's performance was just another Sunday at the office for him. He's trash.

In today's nfl more and more kickers are starting to make 50 yard field goals much more regularly than in the past. The Bengals basically have to get 5 to 10 yards closer than most teams to be in field goal range because he always has been so bad from 50 and beyond. Then you can always count on him to miss his fair share of easier field goals as the year goes on. I would say he is in the bottom third in the league when you add the fact he has a weak leg to go a long with it.

 

With that said I am not sure who would be available right now who would be trustworthy. It's a move they should have made in the off season.

No, I'm standing by my assessment that Nugent is terrible. He has been every year, but Bengals fans love him for some reason.

I don't think Bengals fans love Nugent and I don't think he's in the top 50% in the league. I don't think he is in the bottom third either - and he certainly isn't trash. Most Bengals fans are like me and would be fine replacing him if we could find a good replacement

Definitely don't love him. I would be fine with replacing him with someone with a good leg. But there are still 10 kickers this year who has a lower fg percentage this year even with the 2 misses yesterday and he has the 6th most fg's made this year. And he hasn't missed an extra point this year unlike 19 other teams.

I have no clue, but he's going to be looking for a job soon if he doesn't get his act together. Missed 3 FGs and 2 XPs this season. Ridiculous.

I was entertained today today listening to some such as Lance McCallister who thinks, as he put it during an interview on 700 Wlw this afternoon, that due to the dominant win we are well on the way to the SB lol. Was it just me or does anyone else realize that if not for a miracle Hail Mary right before halftime the Bengals only beat the 0-7 Browns by 1 score? The defense is worrisome to say the least. They need to step it up before they face the Steelers next time they play each other. I liked the offense in the 1st qtr until they went away from what was successful when they would throw early.

We needed this win big time. Now we need to follow it up with 6 more in our next 6.

Your first paragraph is what I am counting on. That is why I made that thread that I think they win at least 7 in a row. The biggest hurdle in doing that imo is this week. No idea how the team will respond to all the changes in their routine and playing basically at 930 in the morning.

I don't think so. It is rookie Corey Coleman. He has been injured (hand) but may play this week. He has big play capability. Can go the distance on any play. Has great quickness. He will be a very dynamic player. Pryor is still a work in progress with great upside. His physical abilities are obvious. His route running, knowing how to keep the defender away from the ball are still developing. Against the Redskins Pryor was abusing their best CB. But on a slant route, Pryor didn't use his body to shield the ball and he ran a bad route, i.e. a route that allowed the DB to cut inside and intercept the ball. The CB took lots of credit for the play after the game but it was a "rookie" mistake that allowed him to get to the ball. A WR with feel for the game would not have let that happen. On another play when the Browns needed a 1st down the QB scrambled a bit and was running in the open towards Pryor who seemed not to know where the first down was. The QB was trying to give Pryor time to drift further out so he would cross the first down but Pryor just kept coming towards him. They didn't get the first. That kind of stuff is why Pryor isn't the best WR on the Browns.

 

Everyone likes what they are seeing in Pryor. It takes a crazy athletic freak to make the transition from QB to WR and Pryor is ahead of the curve but it is still a work in progress. Believe me, I am happy the Browns have invested in him. He is playing with dogged determination. But he isn't the best receiver on the Browns and I don't think he will be. He will, however, be a valuable weapon on offense, especially in the redzone on throws to the back of the end zone.
