Ahhhhh its cov cath week! I wonder if the coaches walking around the halls still say "beat colonels" when they see players throughout the day during this week?

Birds don't play well away from home for some reason. They play much better in Fort Thomas this year. Since it is in Fort Thomas this week, I think it could go either way. I do expect a high scoring game

I would agree with that.

Statistically speaking, HHS has given up more yardage to running plays than they have given up to passing plays this season. That would indicate, generally speaking, that they struggle to match up to teams on the line of scrimmage, which would imply (again, generally speaking) that their defensive line and linebackers are the biggest trouble spot on defense. They have also had games where they have given up more yards on the passing game though. You can also chalk some of that up to the fact that those were teams like Ryle and SK who have superior quarterbacks and passing game.

 

Unfortunately for HHS, they seem to have defense that is all-around "weaker" when compared to HHS defenses of the past, and they also have one of the most challenging regular season schedules in the state which is compounding the fact that they are not as strong as usual when it comes to their defensive performances this season.

Move some kids who play limited snaps on offense over to play defense. No offense to the kids playing defense now but obviously they are struggling. Giving up 500 rushing yards to Dixie Heights tells me they have a major problem stopping the run.

Highlands did get new jerseys this yr...the print on the front is real small but it still says Highlands...

Sometimes there just isn't an answer.

My son said he is trying to get the Brent kid over to the D because he isn't getting much playing time on the O so let's hope he does it. The boy's say he is a pretty good player. I asked him why they don't have kid's going both way and he said it isn't that easy. You have to be able to read the D notes and the O notes more or less and if you place a child on a side they have never played you have more of a problem.

Seems like the Ft Thomas folks are upset with the perception that the coaches aren't doing anything to fix it. Not saying they could, but I haven't heard of any big changes. Example, I know the kids playing DB/S on varsity are hard working but they very, very small. Can't the JV bring up some kids that could help from a size and speed standpoint at DB/S. Also, why haven't studs like Sisson, Schwalbach and few others been moved up to help out? Heck, I know for a fact that 3 of the starting Frosh kids (S, DB, LB) are taller and bigger than what the varsity fields. I would even go out on a limb to say that Huddleston hits harder than all of the varsity DB/S out there.

 

Just don't understand the reason they wouldn't try...What do you have to lose at this point?

Can the punter wander over to the defensive practices after all the special teams practices are over?

So are some of you saying that there are some sophomores that should be starting or getting some snaps but are not?

Are there players who are playing very little at one position but could help at another position?

I do believe we have quite a few sophomore is helping out this year. Huddleston would be one of them on the d-line. And he is one heck of a player when he's in. I just don't understand why some weeks he's in and some weeks he's out. We have some decent size boy's standing there at every game. Not sure why they aren't playing but they aren't. My guess would be there's a lot going on in football practice that we as parents have no clue of. I can tell you one thing that I know for a fact. These coaches give their all to these boy's and deeply care about these boy's. I truly believe if they thought they could fix this problem they would have already done it. But ultimately at the end of the day if you have kid's who aren't in it for the game and only in it for the sake of being able to say they are on the team what can you do?

Highlands has been Jekyl and Hyde all year. They've looked really bad and then have played well. My gut tells me they'll bring it Friday night and pull off the upset. 42-35 Birds.
