At this point in the game if a child was to come up to a coach and say they want to go on defense to help out and normally they are an offense player I don't think the coaches would say no but if they did shame on them. I know the transfer have had some time on the field and my son say's he's a really good so pull him over on defense and help the defense out.

This happened. I was told a player who is playing very little at his current position asked his position coach if he could help out on defense and was told no that he is needed at his current position. Funny thing is he plays very little at his current position and would be a big help on defense (at least I think he would). He would be more valuable to the team on defense than he's been on offense.

If true that is downright terrible. Especially if he's not really getting any playing time on where he's at now. Doesn't make sense to me. But then again nothing that's happened the past two years have made sense to me

Now I have heard that there's been 2 that has ask to be on the d-line and was told they wasn't needed there. Is that maybe what you're referring to? Because I don't agree with that statement either. I think we need help on D on every position

This does not surprise me one bit to be quite honest. This same type of thing happens year after year after year. If you are a "football player" a spot can be made for you without the excuse of not being able to learn the position. Since when did high school football become so darn difficult?

 

On the subject of the Angel kid, he was 1st team punter last year on the NKFCA all star team at the end of the year and yet he has punted how many times this year for Highlands? Kid was also a fairly decent receiver from what I can remember and yet you cannot find a spot for him somewhere on the football field whether it be on offense or defense?

I think I know who your speaking of and I agree with you. If he isn't going to see the field on offense why not put him on defense. The boys believe he can help out. Just not had a real chance to. Go Birds!!

I would not say "great", but certainly better than average and most importantly looks like an athlete that has the tools to play the game of football.

Has the coaches asked kids to move postions? I know clip board is a bigger kid but if he doesn't want to play a certain position I wouldn't want him there. I would rather have a smaller kid who wants to be there and plays with heart than a kid out of obligatiin. I think that is what HHS has been about not all ways the biggest kids but the kids with the most heart

If the coaches refuse to make their defense better with better players and said better players are being turned away after asking to move to defense then that speaks volumes. Hell or high water they are going to employ the platoon system and it doesnt matter if they give up 800 yards rushing in a game. Good grief.

It's my understanding that yes at least one child has been asked to help out and refuses to because that's not what he wants to be and that's not the position he signed up for. No matter what for any child help when needed or go walking is what needs to happen.

It's totally out of the kids hands at this point. Several times this year, players have asked to move to help out, not only to be turned away. The only way Highlands wins this week is if some changes are made to each side of the ball. My comment is based on their record to date with a team that has been the same all year. I fully expect the coaches to make these changes. What else could be done? And kids with big hearts isn't the answer.

I've never seen Highlands football in such disarray. I don't have all the answers on what needs to be changed, but something sure has to change. It's time to start looking at everything.
