Washington high school forfeiting against this team. Thoughts?

Featured Replies

I read about this. They do not attempt to play any higher level of competition. Here are their games and ranks. If they scheduled Bellevue or Skyline, or even Eastside. They would get put into place.

#4836 King's (Seattle, WA) (38-0), #6564 Issaquah (WA) (73-0), #6939 Bishop Blanchet (Seattle, WA) (59-0)

Curious to get Ashland fans' perspectives on this.

Ummmm, it's football...football teams usually have big kids at certain positions. Heck, there are some not very good teams here in KY with comparable size.

I'd like to know of the teams they have/supposed to have played, how many of them were mandatory district/conference games and how many weren't. As posted above, maybe this team is sandbagging and not scheduling to their level of ability and if that's the case, shame on them, but the opposing teams coaches/ad's should be questioned as well for scheduling these guys in the first place then backing out. If these are mandatory district/conference teams they have to schedule, then that's different.

Ok, after a little research, it appears the first two teams they beat are out of conference games they scheduled (non mandatory games), Issaqhah and Bishop Blanchet, and both teams appear to be weak within their respective conferences (according to their record/schedules). Those games they can be taken to task for scheduling. Kings, the last team they actually beat on the field, and the 3 teams that have forfeited, South Whidbey, Sultan and Granite Falls are all in their conference (Cascade). Those games have to be played...tough to throw them much flack on those games, it is what it is, kind of like Mayfield in the past having to play both Fulton schools.

Seneca and J-Town show up to play Trinity. Sounds a little cowardly to me.

I think you have to take into account the difference in football from even here in KY, which isn't exactly a hot bed of high school football but is solid, and how much worse it is there in Washington. Basically this prep school has the size of most football teams here. A few guys over 3 bills and a bunch of dudes over 225 lol

Does the 5'4 115 pound kid actually start varsity?

I'm not very familiar with the size of most the teams in Kentucky. What are a couple KY teams Arbishop Murphy compares to in size?

How big is Trinity? I know Belfry is really big, how do they compare?

Not sure their enrollment but I would have to assume Belfry would dwarf this team comparatively

Belfry averages 3 bills roughly along their entire line and can bring in an additional pair of 300 pounders at a moments notice

Don't know if you recall but from about 1978 to 1982 martinsville,va was banned by their district foes because the Bulldogs had beaten them all so badly. The result was some outstanding teams were ineligible to play in the VHSL playoffs and the Bulldogs had to schedule powerful teams in other regions. They won those showdowns.

Huh. According to calpreps Archbishop Murphy is a 2A school (out of 4A) and only ranked 27th in the state. Though, I do have to wonder if those forfeits are bringing down their rating.

This is teaching the kids the wrong thing. If a school like Somerset got matched up with say Lafayette in a Bowl game I don't think Somerset or any other small school team in the state would forfeit. You go out there and do the best you can knowing the odds aren't in your favor and try to learn where your team is vulnerable.
