Wing T in the NFL?

Featured Replies

Been thinking about this too, could the Wing T or any other run offense (double wing, etc. etc.) work and be successful in the NFL?

Too fast in the box. Not to mention a Rb/qb shelf life in the NFL would plummet.

No. Same reason the wishbone can't work in the NFL. Too much talent in the NFL.

And the running back shelf life is already pretty short.

Depends on what your definition of "work" is. Remember Miami was successful with the "wildcat" a handful of years ago, for a little while. It would probably frustrate d-coordinators for a little bit and would take them outside their normal preparation to get ready for. Barring catastrophic injury to your skill positions, a team might be able to pull it off for a season with the right players. But I don't think there is any way it could be a sustainable situation.

Not if you want to bootleg and waggle your QB consistently. Million dollar investments don't work out well under repeated hits.

Could it work for one game for a series? Sure. Could you do it again after that series? No.

This. I'll always remember as a kid asking my dad why NFL teams

don't run the option like they do in Oklahoma. They're simply

too fast at every position in the NFL.
