The offense has actually been fine.

 

 

 

 

All due respect, it's averaging 4 points a game. That's the cruel bottom line. Granted HC is good, but I will wait and see about EJ, a team that won three ballgames last year. I'm willing to be patient, but so far against good teams the offense has been embarrassing.

NCC, Belfry, Somerset, Henry Clay, East Jessamine...5 scores in those games, some against the other team's reserves...of course the offense is going to look great against Phelps, Allen Central, Jenkins, etc...

 

My biggest problem with the O is 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1...the conversion rate has been close to 0% the last 2 years...Just like the EJ game...3rd and inches, snap the ball back 7 yards and pass, no good...Many people are saying, NO team that cannot line up under center and get a tough yard when they need it will EVER beat a good team. Is it impossible to run this offense and still line up under center some? Like 3rd or 4th and short, or down on the goal line. Another thing I will always hate is snapping the ball back to the 10 yard line on a first and goal from the 4...

I'm sorry CoachJ, but my post about the offense was not meant to be disrespectful or negative towards you or your players, but I do not "enjoy" watching that type of football. I am a smashmouth, line 'em up and run over 'em type of guy. Like the other posters on here, I am 100% behind you and the Panthers! Next time I will clarify my posts,(heck, I don't even like passing the ball) and good luck the rest of the season!

Coach J...I've always thought you had some serious coconuts, but wow! Pikeville faithful...trust him! He has been there and done that vs the best in the state. The last thing needed is for parents to question the system. It beat us in OT just before Beechwood!

I know from seeing Pikeville in the UK passing camp that they do not have as CoachJ says, "a natural passer". If you don't have that luxury, you better have a Plan B which is just what Pikeville has done. It is hard for me to believe a coach at a Class A school can lock into one set offense each and every year. To be able to do that, you must have the numbers and we all know that is not possible at a Class A school or have instilled a "feeder" youth program and develop a quarterback capable of running the passing game. I do not know if Pikeville has that "feeder" program, but am certain if they do not, it's not on CoachJ who is new to the program.

 

Pikeville is playing the hand they have been dealt. When they get into playing schools in their own classification, they will do fine...........patience!

I've got to give it to you coach J, you may be the only coach in the state to lay it all on the line by coming on a board like this and taking the heat. I don't know if its courage or crazy, but you sure seem to be a stand-up guy. Good luck to you in the future.

But, it's early.

 

Coach Smith at Boyle's first two teams didn't execute great at first either (I believe they had a losing season or two at the beginning of his tenure). It takes time...patience...and kids willing to WORK and BELIEVE.

 

We've got those things INSIDE the program at Pikeville...and the kids and coaches believe enough, it doesn't matter how much DOUBT exists outside it.

 

(Good fans SHOULD expect a lot more...that's not "heat" toward me...that's EXPECTED).

Spoken with class and an unbelievable amount of candor. Not many coaches are that open or honest and that is something you just have to respect.
