RoadRunner Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Good effort for the first game for the 'Birds. Need to eliminate the penalties before CovCath next week!

leatherneck Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Baby Birds looked good on Saturday. I agree about the penalties. Can't make mental mistakes and win. While the Birds offense looked good, I was also very impressed with the defense. The D will need to really step it up with CovCath this week. They have a good qb who passes the ball pretty well. D line is going to have to control the line of scrimmage and get to the qb. If we can do that, we'll be fine. This game should be a real test for our frosh. Good luck Birds. Beat CovCath.
extackler Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Rushing TD's by: Collinsworth Alford Merrill Receiving TD by: Hogue I think Collinsworth & Alford had two each. This group has the potential to put up big numbers as long as they stay healthy. I attended the game Saturday and watched the tape on Sunday. Offensive linemen Scholsser and Brown opened the way at the point of attack. On defense I thought Roller, Brown, Schlosser, Dierig and Alford had very good games. There definately needs to be improvement this week against Cov. Cath. I'm sure the coaches will pound this into them this week at practice.

DMZ76 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 How about a listing of starters for both O and D for the baby Bird's. Include #'s if possible!
FamilyTradition Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Starters against Scott; Qb Will Bardo #3, Austin Collinsworth rb #21, Travis Alfred rb#23, David Hogue wr #85, Colin Rosenhagen wr#11, Brandon Roller te #82, Tyler Grubbs t #53, Donnie Brown t#56, Hunter Schlosser g #62, Brian Beck g #61, and Ben Watson #50 at center.
FamilyTradition Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 On defense; Beck, Brown, and Schlosser played the line, Spencer Bankamper #34 lb, Roller, Afford, Watson, and Collen Redmond #1 also at lb's. Nick Buten #30 cb, Rosenhagen cb, Bardo at db.
Crossbar Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Not surprised by this outcome. As much as the program has improved recently, Scott is still lightyears away from a contender. And the future doesn't look much brighter.

FamilyTradition Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 8 going both ways? Is that unusual or do they play more both ways at the freshman level?DMZ76 asked who started. After the first series , there were several players that subbed in various positions. It happens more often on the freshmen level of kids playing both ways. On varsity they have 3 different classes to choose from.
leatherneck Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Not surprised by this outcome. As much as the program has improved recently, Scott is still lightyears away from a contender. And the future doesn't look much brighter. I stood next to some parents of a Scott player at the game. The parents told me that they had only started practice two weeks before the first game and had not gotten together as a team all summer. If there are parents of Scott frosh reading this site, perhaps they could confirm or deny what I was told. I do not know if what I was told was accurate, but if so, it explains why Highlands beat them. The Highlands frosh practiced/lifted/ran all summer long with the varsity. Sure they could not go into pads any earlier than any one else, but so much technique and timing can be improved without pads on. And of course conditioning, endurance, speed and strength can be developed while not in pads. Highlands looked so much more organized and executed the plays much better than Scott as a result. I realize that not every kid is willing or able to make that sacrifice of their summer, but if you can find 25 of them who will (Highlands only has about 28 kids on their frosh team), you will have a much better program. But until Scott takes frosh football more seriously, I doubt whether they can ever be a contender. And if they can't get the freshmen to be a contender year in and year out, I doubt the varsity will ever be a contender either. Sorry to say that because Scott is one of those underdog teams I love to root for. There is so much unrealized potential in that school. Someday they are going to hire a Yeagle, who's going to come in and put the program on its ear and turn things around. He may only have 35 players on his team for several years, but they are going to experience success and when that happens more and more kids will be willing to make the necessary sacrifice to be part of a winner. Just my take on the matter.

It's pretty sad..Another way to help would be to stop the open enrollment that they have in Kenton County..I think this hurts Scott a ton..The kids that are half way decent and want to win go to Dixie...
