Just watched it on HBO and it is freaking hilarous. Funniest ending ever. Olive Hoover is my new favorite girl.

I watched it 3 times over the weekend. It gets funnier everytime you watch it. My son watched it, against his wishes, and wound up finding it WAY beyond his expectations. Really, REALLY a great movie. We spent some time after the movie comparing the characters to people we know. :sssh:

Well, that's one good way to get me to rent it. :p

I was timing how many minutes it would take for you to arrive in this thread. ;)

At best its ok, probably not a repeat viewing in the future.

I can't believe it! I can't even tell people about certain scenes without laughing so hard I start crying.

I'm sure it's a great movie, but I couldn't handle it. Thought the movie was far too serious for a comedy.

It's so dark, it's ludicrous! There's always humor! :D

Good to see people still discovering the movie. It is one of those handful of films that come out of left field each year and surprise you. I had VERY low expectations when I saw it in the theatre, but it just blew me away and the commentary on the dvd made the film even better.

Just an amazing, amazing movie.

Based upon the reviews I read in this thread, I rented the movie last night. I will admit, I was a bit disappointed after reading this thread. I kept telling my wife prior to the movie that this was going to be hilarious. I get into more of the dry humor / dark comedy stuff, so she was not really into it. I thought it was just ok and did not laugh as much as I thought I would.

If I catch it again on HBO one day, I may like it a little more.

It gets funnier the more you watch it.

The first time, you're catching the obvious. Then, you start noticing the facial expressions of characters not speaking, or not being spoken to, the body language, etc. It really does get funnier the 2nd time around.

I rented the movie last night also; and also based on what I've read here.* While I didn't think it was the most hilarious movie I've ever seen, I did enjoy it for its dark comedy. This isn't the slapstick, parody, or surreal humor you find in a lot of mainstream comedies. It's mostly subtle humor with moments of pure silliness. Throw in some brilliantly quirky characters, and you have a great movie.

The movie is a little edgy, and definitely travels outside the normal lines. But that's part of it's appeal -- it's different. What ties it all together is its theme. It has a strong message that it carries from beginning to end, and executes well.

I would watch it again. I have five days on my rental, so I just might do that. ;)

*With a little gentle persuasion. ;)

I tried to watch it this weekend. I got it from Netflix. I guess it was scratched or something. It kept skipping and then getting stuck. I didn't even get halfway through it. :irked:

No, that was the way the movie was devised. That is the comedy everyone keeps referring too. I just did not get it like everyone else.
