Calpreps.com does a very good job ranking teams across the nation. They actually have Cov Cath ranked higher than Sycamore. Here is where Sycamore falls among Kentucky schools in their rankings:

 

For those who know Ohio schools, Sycamore is ranked about the same as Lebanon, Indian Hill, Princeton, Lakota East, Hamilton.

 

In Kentucky, statewide Sycamore would fall here (this is in order of ranking on calpreps.com):

Mayfield

McCracken County

Ballard

SYCAMORE

Pleasure Ridge Park

Pulaski County

 

One other comment, maybe Coach Wirth knew what he was doing when he made out this schedule. It looks like he chose well in the Ohio competition - challenging opponents that the Colonels are capable of beating.

Pretty much in line with calpreps.

Other than those two, I'm not familiar with the CCH players names. Don't follow them closely. Maybe Best comes to mind. I was just repeating what I was told and from that info, I was assuming CCH's best chances in a long time of beating the Birds. Sorry, should have clarified better.

 

And AJ is only a Junior.

Sycamore RB Ra'Von Bonner committed to the Illini.

Sycamore lost in OT last week to the two time defending Ohio D-II state champs. They are very solid team. They have a very good running back and quarterback. I would compare them favorably with Louisville X.

 

Congratulations to CovCath. Truly happy for you. Beating a team like Sycamore is a good resume builder for the season and will certainly give your boys some much needed experience.

 

Oak Hills and Sycamore are now a combined 0-4 on the season. Comparing them to Lou. St. Xavier is a bit of an insult to the Tigers, IMO.

I caught some grief earlier in the season with the Sycamore/Louisville St. X comparison. Now that we are heading into the last week of regular season we have fairly reliable data for the computers to crunch (for those into that sort of thing). Here are the current CalPreps rankings:

Cincy Sycamore 48.7

I haven't been following Cincinnati football that well this season, but I didn't expect to hear that...

No way they would beat either. Especially X.

The Aves are 5-4. Not something to tip there hat on. But it's D1 football in cincy. Will Sycamore make the playoffs?

Sycamore is currently 6th in Division 1, Region 4. A win this week against Mason would get them in. A loss and they will be on the bubble.

The Cincinnati area has 6 schools rated higher than St. X. It is a whole different level when you play over there. St. X would be a very slight favorite over Sycamore. St. X is a one TD underdog to Cincinnati St. X this Friday.

 

The Sycamore win has proven to be the most impressive win of the year for Cov Cath, although I am sure CCH fans are much happier with the win over Highlands.

Sycamore beats Mason tonight 20 - 7. The Aves advance to the Ohio D-1 quarterfinals against Cincy St. X. next week.
