Do You Like the" Star-Spangled Banner" ? John Legend Doesn't...

Featured Replies

Unless they have a rock act - No I dont watch the super bowl half time show . And SB 49 , was that 1 year or 5 years ago ? I really dont care much about the SB either. I couldnt name who won the last 2 or 3 . The NFL just doesnt entertain me the way it used to . Could be I cant stomach being a Bengals fan and they ran Tebow out of the league ?

Legend performed in 2015... Sung "America the Beautiful."

Also sang the national anthem at last year's NBA Finals.

It wasn't at halftime. He sang "America the Beautiful" to honor your country before the game. Where were you?

Folks, as UKMustang said, I'm flabbergasted that some of you haven't heard of John Legend. I'm a seventies music guy all the way, but I also watch the Superbowl. Were you folks watching "I Love Lucy" reruns during Superbowl 49 when Legend performed?

No, but I was using the turlot, then gettin' another beer and sammich during halftime. I believe that's what we're 'sposed to do, right?

I stand corrected. I was probably doing the same before that game started as well.

I was bound to the TV , hanging on its every image ... good gracious , why the interrogation ? I was probably chasing teens around the church or picking up pizza , I usually hang there on SB sunday and NY eve .

I have to admit, I don't pay much attention to the "entertainment" at the SB. I've not been super-impressed with it. I miss the days when it was all about the game and less an extravaganza.

I love the story in the song and the pride it let's you feel of generation after generation.

Agreed. I get choked up about every other time I hear it.

I am 53 and know exactly who John Legend is...I guess I am hip:). Regarding the anthem, I like the story behind the song but not the song that much. Very hard to sing. I don't hate it but don't love it.

I cannot figure out why Legend was linking that he does not like the song to CK saying he does not like what it stands for...two totally different issues.

Before I hit Google...John who?

No idea...

OK, recognized the voice immediately. All of Me - is that his most popular? Heard him on XM on the soft pop stations.

I haven't watched one minute of the last 10 to 15 Super Bowls, for a million dollars I couldn't name who played in the last one.

Agree

Is 50 really old? :lol2:

This 50 year old knows and loves John Legend. I don't think it is your actual age they're referring to.....:D

I used to sing the National Anthem at basketball games in high school. It is easily the least favorite of any song I've ever sung solo in public. I have never gotten relearn eyed or even choked up by that song. I have by America the Beautiful and God Bless America. I respect the promise of an anthem, but the Star Spangled Banner doesn't accurately represent what I "feel" America is.
