Mason County 23 Montgomery County 20

Featured Replies

Mason County wins a squeaker 23-20; Montgomery County had the ball on the Mason 6 w1th 3 seconds left and went for the win, Indians QB (who had a nice all-around game) sacked at 0:00.

Is Mason getting ready for 10th region play yet? Isn't football just so they can get in shape for basketball?

Ten years ago, Yes. Now No!! Mason will contend every year now. I like their new arrangemnet next year.

Congrats to Mason Co. on the win over what appears to be an up and coming program of Montgomery Co. Montgomery Co. used to be plain bad but seems to have that turned around. Once again congrats to Mason and good luck to them next week as well as Montgomery Co.

Yes, it's good to see Montgomery Co. picking themselves up...

Congrats to both teams. Sounds like it was a GREAT game !!

I like it... Mason gets the win, Montgomery gets the lift. Our 3A will make some noise this year, and our (THE Golden Eagles) 5A looks like it has a nice head knockin' district brewing next year.

I had wondered what Montgomery Co. was like this year. Gooch was a coach here in Owensboro for several years and I thought that Montgomery got them a good one when he left here. Sounds like he might me turning them around a little.

Coach Gooch is doing a great job with the Montgomery County program. He is a super person as well.

Thanks Chief. It sounds like you guys have a good QB this year which always helps. I know from experience that Gooch can light a fire under some players if they are not performing well.

Random thoughts:

- Don't know for sure, but maybe the Royals have settled their "quarterback controversy". Middleton started, but Cox came in after the first few possessions and stayed in the rest of the way.

- Don't see a lot of difference in the arms, but Cox looks much more comfortable running the ball than Middleton.

- Mason County's O-Line needs to improve. 33 rushes for under 90 yards isn't going to be good enough against Ashland, Johnson Central, etc.

- Montgomery County's QB (Curtis) is a nice player; completed close to 70% of his passes and had a real nice return late in the game. #7 looked like he was going to win the game all by himself with a TD reception then returning a pick on defense, but I don't remember him touching the ball after halftime.

- It was a hot, muggy night, but it looked like the Indians need a little more conditioning; several stoppages in play due to cramping.

- For the second straight game, Mason County's Darius Miller had a well-timed pick.

Cox did look a little more comfortable at QB. Seemed to know who he was going to, a little more quick on releasing the ball the Middleton.

Coach Gooch had his hands full then he took over the program last season and while Montgomery did show improvement last season, they are showing even more this season. He will have them competing with their district foes a year or 2 ahead of when I thought he would. Well done!

Does anybody have stats?

Had to work last night wasnt able to catch the game.
