NewCath offense looked like a well oiled machine tonight, has Patrick Henschen and company put a beatdown on the Eagles. Henschen did a great job running the ball which will add a new wrinkle to things, as it will definitely open up the passing game. Speaking of his passing game, it was pretty damn nice. With Henschen’s ability to scramble, Trent Wrobleski, Austin Neff and Harrison Walz did a great job of getting behind the coverage for big catches.

Other than a couple missed tackles on the Perrin kickoff return, the Breds (1st Team) defense was A-plus…..to be fair though, Perrin made a few very nice moves and once he was in the open field no one was going to catch him. Kurtis Sudkamp with a few bone crushing hits/tackles, and the DL/LB did a great job of keeping the Eagles run/pass game in check.

The game next week at Cooper will be real interesting, considering the porous defense I saw out of the Jags last night against Highlands.

Is NCC really good or is Scott really bad?

BOTH

lawnboy pretty much covered the game well. Scott is a one man show #7 stop or contain him and it's over. 302 - 76 first half yard totals. The Breds dominated!! jv game up 2 scores in the 2nd half. I stand by my previous statement in the pre season nky top 10 ranking saying Scott will fall out of top 10. They have a ton to fix and hope they do but at this point not a top 15 team in nky. The Breds really lay the wood.

Can't wait to see the Belfry-NCC game in a couple of weeks.

Forgot to mention....the Breds Jason Decker...WOW!!!!! very impressed with his running game tonight. :ylsuper:

Agreed!! And Kelly is so smooth with the ball might be most pure athletic Kelly of them all

I feel bad for Nelson Perrin. Nelson doesn't have much around him at all to work with.. In my opinion Scott is going to struggle a lot this year. NCC is much better than I thought they would be. Henschen and Co. are pretty darn good. NCC will put it on Cooper imo..

per Rick Broering.......

Senior quarterback Patrick Henschen accounted for four first-half touchdowns Saturday night as Newport Central Catholic cruised to a 47-21 win over Scott at Newport Stadium.

Henschen ran for touchdowns of 4 and 34 yards before connecting with senior tight end Austin Neff for scoring strikes of 68 and 32 yards as the Thoroughbreds built a commanding 33-7 halftime lead. Henschen finished the game 6 of 8 passing for 176 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 55 yards and two more scores on eight carries, all in the first half.

After suffering a tough season-opening loss at Scott last year, NewCath turned the tables on the Eagles in convincing fashion. Last year’s game was a defensive struggle between the two teams as Scott pulled out an 8-7 win on a fumble returned for a touchdown and a two-point conversion in the fourth quarter.

Saturday night NewCath got off to a fast start on both sides of the ball and never looked back. The Thoroughbreds’ starters saw little playing time in the second half due to their big lead and the running clock mercy rule going into effect.

Henschen connected with junior Harrison Walz for 23 yards and senior Trent Wrobleski for 39 yards on the Breds’ first two plays from scrimmage. He later capped the five-play, 72-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run.

NewCath’s defense forced three straight punts against Scott’s offense to open the game, the third of which set NewCath up in Scott territory. Five plays later Henschen turned a broken pass play into a 34-yard touchdown run. Junior receiver Kyle Losey leveled a Scott defender with a punishing block to seal the edge for Henschen.

Neff recovered a fumble and rumbled a few yards to the Scott 7 on the Eagles’ next possession. Drew Bravard then stretched the Thoroughbreds’ lead to 19-0 with a 1-yard touchdown run.

Scott returned six starters on the offensive side of the ball from last year’s team that finished 10-3, but the Eagles are young on defense with nine new faces starting. That inexperience showed as NewCath’s offense piled up 302 yards in the first half alone and 360 for the game.

After starting a drive at their own 8 late in the first half, the Breds needed just three plays to score. Junior Jason Decker gave them some breathing room with two nice runs, and then Henschen found Neff wide open for a 68-yard touchdown. Decker finished with eight carries for 77 yards, while Neff had two catches for 100 yards, both of which were touchdowns.

Nelson Perrin put the Eagles on the board with a special teams touchdown late in the second quarter. After fielding a kickoff at his own 10, he used a nice juke move in the middle of the field to make defenders miss and then stiff-armed the last NewCath defender to free himself for the 90-yard touchdown return. Also the team’s quarterback, Perrin finished with 10 rushes for 44 yards. Sophomore David Patrick added 64 yards on 10 carries.

Henschen and the Breds responded with a four-play, 81-yard drive that culminated in a 32-yard touchdown pass from Henschen to Neff to make the score 33-7 at halftime.

NewCath added touchdowns on a 95-yard kickoff return by sophomore Kyle Kelly to open the second half and a 4-yard run by Decker.

Scott scored again when Nelson Perrin hit senior Auston Price for a 66-yard touchdown after NewCath removed its starters midway through the third quarter. Sophomore Quincy Perrin, younger brother of Nelson, scored on a 10-yard run in the final two minutes. The Eagles finished with 240 total yards of offense after only tallying 76 yards in the first half.

Quincy Perrin is a freshman.

Nice win NCC. There district is going to be exciting to watch.

Quincy Perrin is a freshman.

So proud of Quincy!! That is awesome!!

NCC is better than Scott hands down. Good news for Scott is they will not see a team in 4a as good as NCC until the playoffs. Lots of work to do before then. A lot of people are ready to write this team off, in the words of Aaron Rodgers R-E-L-A-X! These Eagles will be ready for district play.

Side note from what I've seen the last two weeks, the Lloyd vs NCC game should be a classic!

So proud of Quincy!! That is awesome!!

Scott has a few freshman, who along with Quincy, will see some time this year, and who have very bright futures. The freshman class is very good.

Not a pretty game tonight, but it is a transition year, and they will improve.

First string offense and defense for the Breds was lights out. Henschen looked great passing the ball and his running ability will make him more difficult to contain.

As a team, New Cath looked much better than I figured they would be this early. As far as NKY football goes, 2A district games will be the best this season by far.

Perrin will be an excellent player, didn't know he was a freshman until tonight.
