Fournette Should Skip Football This Season

Per Nick Wright on Cowherd's show.

Logic is that:

a. He has nothing to gain

b. Will not hurt his draft status

c. he is risking injury (see: Lattimore, Marcus)

I think it makes sense logically.

Challenge is it's not how dudes are wired.

What's the argument for him needing to play this year?

Agree with everything you said, Clizzy.

He gains absolutely nothing from playing this season. He can train and work out and still be in top shape come draft/combine time. The issue is no high-caliber athlete wants to sit out a year, especially if he has a choice.

Does he owe anything to any person or the school?

Assuming he's still a student, he has an obligation if he expects them to fund his education. I'm sure some will chuckle at that notion. Still,,

Well yeah, if he doesn't play, he has to pay his own way to school.

I would assume he would get a significant insurance policy if he stays. Or at the least, he should

He has $20 million worth of policies. $10 million that the school pays for, per NCAA regulations, $10 million that his family bought additionally.

I HATE this argument. This dude loves football, loves "carrying the ball for the kids from my Ward that couldn't get out, for my teammates, and for LSU fans", but we are implying he should sit out and give up what he loves to do to be safe? Asinine.

Using this argument, every likely 1st round pick should sit out. The QB from UCLA certainly shouldn't play.

These kids are covered, the NCAA lets the school pay for $10 million of coverage, let them enjoy themselves, their teammates, and the maturation process that comes from it. There is nothing like College Football, these kids should enjoy every second of it.

The top 5 picks should take the season off then. Then in 5 years it will extend to the top 10 projected guys.

Maybe so. If anything it shows the odd nature of amateur athletics in this country.

If only it were that easy.

Loss of value policies are not new yet only 2 players have ever collected. TWO. Since about 1990.

Plus it's not cheap.

Insurance companies are going to look for any injury they can in your history to allow them to not pay. That's not breaking news. Ask Marquis Lee about that. Never got paid.

As to your quote, it's really nice. However, it doesn't get him paid.

Let's remove the romanticism from this. It should be removed. It's nice. It's quaint. It can also stop you from earning $100M in the future.

Legit question to ask if you're a stud player.

Did Nick Wright present an example of any 1st rounder who refused to play his last year of college football and not lost ground in the draft? Is there an example?

BTW, who is Nick Wright?

He did not. It hasn't happened.
