August 4, 201610 yr 1. You can't stop arresting people who are breaking the law. This should say "stop profiling black people." 2. Disagree completely with this. 3. Getslow touched on an option for this. 4. While this will help, black people still have to apply for said jobs. 5. Black people should be encouraged to join the police force, go to school for criminal justice and law. Just creating these things because doesn't seem right to me. 6. Disagree with this. Deuce, that was my 30,000 ft view. I'm sure I didn't hit them all 100%, we'll have to wait until blm representatives actually parse these out via an interview. Several are very open ended and can mean many things. They can paint them out in a lot of different ways. I'm just glad they put something out, it helps knowing where they are coming from.

Agree with your take on this. #5 is troublesome in that if we have only black court systems, is this not going backwards instead of forward. We have fought to end discrimination and racism and this seems like they are asking to go back to it. I agree with more minorities in public safety jobs. Much of the problem, no matter the skin color, is passing a drug screen. Seriously. You have 10 people apply for a job and 7-8 can't pass a drug screen.
August 4, 201610 yr 1. Stop arresting black people via traffic stops, minor drug bust ect ect. 2. Provide a payment to all black people due to slavery an in justices from the past. 3. Make banks provide money to invest in black only communities. 4.make openings in companies to insure the work force is represented by the blacks living in the community. 5. Create black court systems and police forces to see over the community. 6.create black only positons thru out the current society. I've thought they needed to do this to make it a legitimate group for a long time. I had hoped it would be a little bit more moderate but hey its a start. Is this a tongue-in-cheek suggestion, or is this really what you think should be done?
August 4, 201610 yr Is this a tongue-in-cheek suggestion, or is this really what you think should be done? I think this was his cliffs notes version of the platform in post #1.
August 4, 201610 yr Is this a tongue-in-cheek suggestion, or is this really what you think should be done? No, I took a stab at what I thought some of those things could mean. If I was putting a list out like they did, that's the way I would paint some of those talking points. To me if I'm making a list it would be very open ended just like this, with the hope I could get a few to stick in the end.
August 4, 201610 yr I'm all for reperations. But only give it to the people who were actual slaves or son/daughter of an actual slave. Have to provide papers of proof.
August 4, 201610 yr Now that they have a policy/agenda, politicians can begin to work with them to get some of this stuff put into law. #2 - would get much more support for their overall plan if a lot of people thought there was something in it for them. I would be more willing to vote or listen if something was in it for me. How many payouts is our government currently doing??? Does anyone know? Indian payments? Alaska pays out something? (State thing) Ect Has to be several, I'm sure. Ect
August 4, 201610 yr I didn't realize there was a WAR on black people? So if they feel there is a war, does it mean they will be violent and take agressive action?
August 4, 201610 yr Control over laws? So will there be white laws and black laws? Hows that work? If you want to change local laws you have to run for office. I'm not for seperating this land by color.

I'm not for seperating this land by color. #5 - I could see them asking for a special set of laws for communities that are 65% black. This is just an example not written fact. Again, the BLM leaders will have to give specifics on what their thinking. Edited August 4, 201610 yr by TexasRanger Add text
August 4, 201610 yr I want reparations paid to me for mental suffering of having to live in this stupid PC world.
August 5, 201610 yr I like a couple of the basic proposals at the end of that (I'll listen to reparations proposals and we really need to address the way the war on drugs is working) and have a couple that I'd like to add that I think would help: 1) Complete overhaul of state and federal banking regulations to encourage a return to community banks rather than the massive consolidation we've seen in the last 30 years. That should make it easier for black-owned small businesses and sole proprietorships to borrow the necessary funds to start and continue business operations in neighborhoods where such things have been dead for decades. 2) Reforms to local, state, and federal business regulations to make it easier for small businesses and local proprietorships to operate outside the burdensome load of over-regulation that favors massive corporations at the expense of smaller entities. 3) An end to privately-run prisons. The fact that certain groups and people have an economic interest in making sure other people remain in prison is completely insane in a free society. I worry about big government and overspending in a lot of sectors as much as the next guy, but private prisons should be a non-starter. In fact, the whole way the justice system finances itself needs serious examination. You do realize that your banking suggestion is impossible because small banks cannot survive due to the incredible amount of govt. regulation right now. Small banks simply cannot afford to hire the amount of people needed to make sure they are compliant with the thousands and thousands of pages of government regs. Many have sold to bigger banks for this reason.
August 5, 201610 yr Black Lives Matter Releases Policy Agenda - NBC News The six platform demands are: 1. End the war on black people. 2. Reparations for past and continuing harms. 3. Divestment from the institutions that criminalize, cage and harm black people; and investment in the education, health and safety of black people. 4. Economic justice for all and a reconstruction of the economy to ensure our communities have collective ownership, not merely access. 5. Community control of the laws, institutions and policies that most impact us. 6. Independent black political power and black self-determination in all areas of society. To achieve those demands the group offered a set of solutions that include the demilitarization of police and an end to systemic attacks on black youth, including black members of the LGBTQ community. They call for the passing of state and federal laws that acknowledge and address the impacts of slavery and the passage of H.R. 40 to form a commission to study reparations proposals. Another of the recommendations calls for the "retroactive decriminalization and immediate release of all people convicted of drug offenses, sex work-related offenses and youth offenses." I actually thought this was a joke when I first read it but I guess it is true? End the war on black people? Blacks better talk to other blacks about that. Their war seems to be with each other more than blacks against whites or vice versa. Is #4 just a call for communism? "Communities have collective ownership" sounds like communism to me. There is no way to measure these things either so no matter what anyone does to try to meet these demands, BLM can (and will) say not enough is being done. I think you just have to ignore nonsense like what is proposed here.

August 8, 201610 yr So it sounds to me that BLM want to go back to the pre 1960's where we segregate everyone. Yea that sounds positive. oh and they want crime to run even more rampant as they don't want any police protection. I I wouldn't mind if police across the country all came down with the Blue Flu for a couple days. See how they like it then.
