Black Lives Matter Releases Policy Agenda

Featured Replies

I'm all for reperations. But only give it to the people who were actual slaves or son/daughter of an actual slave.

Have to provide papers of proof.

Then let's give reperarions to everyone no matter the color of their skin if their ancestors were ever mistreated by another group. Seriously. Reparations may be the biggest joke of them all.

Good point and I admit I did not read it thru...

I actually wish the overhaul could happen...sadly I don't see how it ever does...

1) The knowledge that we're beginning to undo decades of mistrust which followed in the wake of centuries of outright oppression and political and economic disenfranchisement. We might just make American cities better places to live.

2) More protests, I assume.

Number six is problematic. I want to know more details.

Only number 6?

I like a couple of the basic proposals at the end of that (I'll listen to reparations proposals and we really need to address the way the war on drugs is working) and have a couple that I'd like to add that I think would help:

1) Complete overhaul of state and federal banking regulations to encourage a return to community banks rather than the massive consolidation we've seen in the last 30 years. That should make it easier for black-owned small businesses and sole proprietorships to borrow the necessary funds to start and continue business operations in neighborhoods where such things have been dead for decades.

2) Reforms to local, state, and federal business regulations to make it easier for small businesses and local proprietorships to operate outside the burdensome load of over-regulation that favors massive corporations at the expense of smaller entities.

3) An end to privately-run prisons. The fact that certain groups and people have an economic interest in making sure other people remain in prison is completely insane in a free society. I worry about big government and overspending in a lot of sectors as much as the next guy, but private prisons should be a non-starter. In fact, the whole way the justice system finances itself needs serious examination.

If this were their list I'd be supporting it. I agree the war on drugs needs to end but the people in jail broke the law knowing the law we can't just open the gates all at once.

But I'd be for any end to the current drug policy. That is agreed upon by people of all races. I just don't see your first two examples going through since they are Libertarian or Fiscal conservative idea's the majority of the people out their protesting don't agree with those philosophies.

1. You can't stop arresting people who are breaking the law. This should say "stop profiling black people."

2. Disagree completely with this.

3. Getslow touched on an option for this.

4. While this will help, black people still have to apply for said jobs.

5. Black people should be encouraged to join the police force, go to school for criminal justice and law. Just creating these things because doesn't seem right to me.

6. Disagree with this.

Agree with all. The positions are there and a lot of places bend over backwards trying to get the diversity to apply. You can lead a horse to water. You can create and reserve all the spots you want, but you still need qualified applicants to want to do it.

I'm just really happy we agree on some things :lol2:

I think we agree on more than we realize, and if we were really able to talk about some of these things we'd see that.
