August 4, 201610 yr This is the kind of stuff that pushes people to go buy their weapons at gun shows. A government that can't follow its own rules.
August 4, 201610 yr My question is why do the feds need to retain this information? They receive the required information to determine if a prospective buyer should be allowed to purchase a firearm. Once the answer has been determined they shouldn't have a need for this information.

Many Americans don't trust the government, and there is plenty of evidence to support this distrust. It's up to the American public to hold our government accountable, something that is becoming increasingly more difficult.
August 4, 201610 yr We'll see I suppose. I mean I hope you're right and the second amendment is never done away with. However, it seems pretty silly to sit back and just automatically assume that it never will.
August 4, 201610 yr This is the kind of stuff that pushes people to go buy their weapons at gun shows. A government that can't follow its own rules. You still have to fill out a 4473 and have background check completed at gun shows...just like going to a gun store.
August 4, 201610 yr You still have to fill out a 4473 and have background check completed at gun shows...just like going to a gin store. So then why is there always a big complaint about gun shows from the anti-gun crowd? I have honestly never been to one. I want to go and check it out. I was under the impression that gun shows were typically more lax, which is why the gun control crowd wanted to stop/crack down on them.
August 4, 201610 yr I mean I hope you're right and the second amendment is never done away with. However, it seems pretty silly to sit back and just automatically assume that it never will. It's only silly because some are terrified that our guns will be taken away. I don't think there's any chance whatsoever that will ever happen, especially in any of our lifetimes, regardless of what party is in power. Nothing has happened to even suggest the 2nd would be done away with. People hear "gun control" and immediately make the jump to repealing the 2nd Amendment.
August 4, 201610 yr I think I read that every country that ended up confiscating firearms did so after first having law abiding citizens register them...thus giving them a list of who legally owns a firearm. That is what concerns people. Face it there are ultra far left extremist in this country that would outlaw guns today if they had the power to.

People only get "terrified" when they hear that their government has been illegally stockpiling information on them. Why does the government need that information? Why did they think that that information was so important, that they were willing to break the law to get it?

Because people talking about gun control know nearly nothing about what they are talking about. Even the President talked about closing the "Gun Show Loophole", guys selling guns at gun shows are ATF licensed and they are going to prison if they don't keep records and complete background checks.
August 4, 201610 yr You still have to fill out a 4473 and have background check completed at gun shows...just like going to a gun store. Only if the seller is a Federal Firearms License holder. You can buy from individuals who are not licensed without a check.

I honestly kind of figured that that is what it was going to be....it is usually the case. I saw a kid on facebook today talking about how he could go into a walmart and buy a "Military grade assault rifle"...smh. Nonetheless, I should have said that these types of actions will force more people to buy guns "off the record."

I would say everyone I've ever seen selling at a gun show was a licensed seller. Private sales can happen anywhere...it's not a gun show phenomenon.
