This is where I disagree on this relating to what Reagan did, and how it relates to what Obama did. Reagan did not negotiate with Hezbollah. The way I understand it, he negotiated with Israel, who sold weapons to Iran, who then claimed that they would do whatever they could to get the US hostages out from Hezbollah control. After Israel sold weapons to Iran, we sold weapons to Israel to restock their weapons cache. I could be wrong, but I don't think there were ever any direct discussions between the Reagan administration and Hezbollah.

I would probably disagree because Reagan's end game all along was to deal with Hezbollah and get the hostages freed. In my mind it's semantics as to who talked to whom. (Kind of like a multi team trade/deal in sports)

My opinion is clear. I think Iran is a terrorist state. Now if you want to get technical then we'll have to find out if Iran is officially listed as a terrorist state in order to logically conclude that the US negotiated with terrorists. If they aren't listed as a terrorist state then no, the US didn't negotiate with terrorists even though I think Iran is a terrorist state. My opinion is meaningless when you get to the nuts and bolts of the whole situation but if want to logically conclude that I believe they negotiated with terrorists then by all means let me know so you can logically conclude some of my other opinions.

I thought all of this money held in U.S. banks that belonged to Iran was ruled by a federal judge to be distributed to victims of various terror attacks thought to be carried out by Iran or with their assistance? Am I imagining this? I thought that was the settlement of a lawsuit filed against Iran in U.S. court.

 

I believe there are still some Americans being held in Iran including some that Iran disputes holding. What about them? We, again, seem to be getting the short end of the deal. We released 7 Iranian prisoners and dropped extradition requests for 14 others. Why didn't we get all of our people back?

President Clinton said in 2000 the $400M that the US was hold would be used to pay the US citizens that had won lawsuits against Iran. The money should no longer be there. President Obama is not claiming the money he sent to Iran was this same money. Either President Clinton lied then and paid the lawsuits with US taxpayer money or President Obama is lying now and paid Iran with US tax money. President Clinton may have said it 15 years ago but the payment was made 15 years ago so the money shouldn't be there anymore.

Could be. I'm more concerned that China could never attack us with bombs but could ruin us financially if they chose to. Plus my employers are heavily involved with China so China scares me more than the others.
