This photo was found and originally shared by two '63 NHS grads, David Collins and Mitch Wolfe. I don't know them, and the email was forwarded several times.

 

You will note the baseball field and football field were already there before the stands were being built. Note the home plate and backstop area beyond the far endzone. Beyond that is where the current NHS school building stands. At the time of this photo, the high school was located several blocks away in Newport.

 

The far hilltop at the top of the picture is actually Mt. Adams, across the Ohio River in Cincinnati.

You can see the exact spot that Duffer Duffer threw that 2 pt conversion or fake field goal or whatever it was that snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against NCC that one year!

What year did Newcath start borrowing the field?

The good old Civilian Conservation Corps. I think they built all of the old stadiums along the river. Ludlow, Newport, Dayton, Bellevue.

Northern KY history has always been a big interest to me. The younger crowd may not see it that way.
