rjs4470 Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I can remember driving my friends crazy wanting to watch MTV at their house since I grew up in an area with no cable tv (hard to believe those areas existed). Current MTV is nowhere near the same channel it used to be.
Jumper_Dad Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 MTV was notoriously missing several artist, as they tried to claim they were a "Rock and Roll" station, but with so many "Pop" songs that rang untrue...finally with the breakout of Thriller and MJ's appearance on the Motown Awards, MTV go their heads out of their butt and started airing black artist. Yo' MTV Raps did as much to spread rap and hip hop as any other single thing or person...if not for that show that entire genre of music may have never gotten the traction to grow to become as huge as it did. Then in 1992 The Real World was unleashed on the MTV viewers and ushered in the beginning of the end for the "Video" portion of the channel. Within a decade the channel got completely away for showing videos instead programming "Reality" programs.

75center Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Remember going up to my buddy's house in Indiana over the Labor Day Weekend and watching a ton of MTV.
Jumper_Dad Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 And remember when Nina Blackwood had a decent VJ voice and was attractive? Time has not been good to her. Yeah it's not been good to her, I always liked Martha Quinn...I still think that's her in the "Centerfold" video, even though she says it's not :lol2:
mcpapa Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 A few weeks before I started college at NKU. Youngster.
Jumper_Dad Posted August 1, 2016 Author Posted August 1, 2016 Youngster. We feel about MTV the same way you feel about when the first "Talkie" was shown at the picture show.
TAC Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 Remote control was the only non video program on MTV I liked. I remember seeing MTV at Christmas at my rich cousins house. "You got lucky babe" by Tom Petty was the first one I saw. 1985 I'm guessing.
MentschTrachtGottLacht Posted August 1, 2016 Posted August 1, 2016 I would have thought "She's a Beauty" by the Tubes would have been on that original list. Bob Pittman's baby was a monster in those early days -- loved MTV for about the first 10-15 years of its existence.
