Chapman to the Cubs

Featured Replies

I suppose this could be a tryout for both parties. See how well he fits in or out. May fall in love with each other and resign with the Cubs in the offseason.

I don't know if this has been addressed, but would the Cubs be able to give him a qualifying offer and get a nice pick if he doesn't take it?

No...

Did the Yanks get a better package for chapman than the Reds got?

Ummmm...yes. But not as bad as everyone is acting.

I pulled stats on the players the Reds got for Chapman.

Rookie Davis ... having a very good year in AA.

Eric Jagielo is struggling in AA ... batting .218; .652 OPS

Tony Renda recently promoted to Louisville ... batted .326 with .836 OPS in AA

Caleb Cotham is a 28 year old reliever currently on the DL. Not good this year.

I would like to hear thoughts on how these players compare with the Cubs players the Yankees received.

The Cubs gave up 2 of baseball's top 100 prospects. The best the Reds got in return for Chapman isn't even ranked in the Reds organizational top 10....

Should the Reds have held onto Chapman till now?

Would they have received more in return if they held onto him till now?

That answer is clearly yes.

They traded him at what ended up being the worst possible time.

Had they dealt him at last year's deadline, they would've gotten a better package. Had they held onto him until now, they'd have gotten a better package.

It's tough to pull the trigger on when the right time to unload is.

It didn't work out with him, but it appears that it will with Bruce.

That answer is clearly yes.

Would they have traded him in the division?

Would they have traded him in the division?

Why wouldn't they? He would have only been a half season rental that would not even give the team that he was traded to a compensatory pick.

Theo said he had a heart-felt convo with Aroldis about his off-field issues.

Chapman says he doesn't remember having said talk.

I'm thinking Cashman may watch a bunch of those flipping shows on HGTV.
