I think CovCath's schedule is as difficult an anyone's in NKY. An argument could be made that it should be taken down a notch as the program builds back to a championship level contender.

 

I'm fine with that, but it doesn't change the fact that it is lighter than years past and they still may not go .500. Heck, I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not going to be the CovCath guy saying "this is the year", then have to spend November making a bunch of excuses (again).

 

I'm at nearly every game and wins are more fun than losses. It isn't like I'm not rooting like crazy for them to get back to where they were 10 years ago. I'm just not expecting it until I see it again.

If the schedule is lighter than years past and is still one of the most difficult in NKY, that confirms what some (Guru being the most prominent) have said, the schedule has been way too difficult to get the program back to where it has been. However, scheduling is only part of the equation, as better off-seasoning work, coaching, blocking, and tackling all need addressed.

 

The over/under on regular season wins is set at 5. I will be in the stands cheering the boys on hoping they get the over.

A lot of people have Highlands at number two? If there were juniors or sophomores that were better last year I assumed they would have played. Aside from getting an influx of transfers why do we think they will fare better than last year? Is a pre season #2 ranking resting on laurels of years past and not a realistic view given last years performance?

I don't put to much in on the year before. But I know the classes coming up are no slouches. And they know the title put on them cause of subpar regular season last yr. So I would expect a hungry team with a full spring practice under there belt. As well as a ton of "HATERS" who will beating on them until another championship is hoisted.

I have no doubt HHS will do well in 5A. I just don't know how well they will do against the 6a schools again. That's my only knock on them being so high in a NKY ranking. Statewide 5a is a little different, I would put them higher.

1. SK - The best NKY team last year with the most coming back and an undefeated JV team to support the returning starters

2. Ryle - Morgan and crew will be improved from last year but will it be enough to fully close the gap with the Pioneers ?

3. Cooper - While I think they take a step back this year it will not be a very big one. They return some playmakers and Borchers is a terrific coach.

4. Cov Cath - I know you can't rank them ahead of HHS until they beat them but its my top ten. AJ will be much improved from last year and I think they have more coming back up front than HHS

5. Highlands - It sounds like they have the offensive skill positions covered in the Fort but do they have enough upfront on both sides of the ball to beat anyone ranked above them?

6. Scott - Welcome to life without the two stud running backs lucky for them they still have a lot upfront and Nelson Perrin to fill the void.

7. Dixie - They were young last year and gained valuable experience. Cameron Barrett should have a big year

8.9.10. Beechwood, NCC, Holy Cross - Holy Cross has the most coming back but were also 0-2 against them. NCC has Henschen, HC has Abernathy & Barnes, and Beechwood has Justice & Castleman I think these three separate themselves at the line of scrimmage. Lucky for us they all play each other.

 

HM- Conner - They started off last year off the list and do so again but I have to think by the end of the season they may be back there again.

I think CCH takes a step forward in Coach Eviston's 2nd year. This is the 1st time in a long time I think they can beat the Birds. I'm in the school of thought to never predict them ahead of them, because there is a mental component, and that is a kid-to-kid thing.

The senior class is even more inferior than last years class...period. This is coming from what I heard and saw the last few years, and even this summer as well personally.Other than that. Just one man's feedback.

This is a good post and I'm right there with ya outside of ranking CovCath above Highlands. Their skill positions will make up for lack of depth on the line.

Doesn't matter how good your skills are if they are running for their life every play.

Remember CovCath is still playing a schedule put together by former coach just before his departure. It seems pretty obvious that he made sure it would be as tough as possible to make it look like if he couldn't fix the program the next coach won't be able to either. I expect covcath to be improved from last season and even better next year.
