We have just about a month to go until the 2016 high school football season kicks off on August 19th. With that in mind, I'm curious to hear what folks have to say about how teams have developed since I put out my pre-season power rankings last year.

My top 10 NKY programs going into the 2015 season were:

10) Scott (4A)

9) Beechwood (1A)

8) Newport Central Catholic (2A)

7) Campbell County (6A)

6) Covington Catholic (5A)

5) Cooper (6A)

4) Dixie Heights (5A)

3) Ryle (6A)

2) Simon Kenton (6A)

1) Highlands (5A)

Obviously the landscape changed over the following 11 weeks of the regular season, and even a little more in the playoffs. Which teams do you think stay in the top 10? Are there any new teams that show their face? Who has moved up/down?

CWB, I guess I am curious about Dixie Heights, as I know they went to the state title game a few years back. I'm sure that senior group was awfully special, but out of the others listed here would think they could get a peek at the top 10 at some point in the year. Am I close here?

Dixie was in a tough spot last year...having to find replacements for something like 15 or 16 of their starters from the year previous. On the offensive side of the ball, they only had one starter returning.

They showed some improvement over the course of the season - particularly on offense - but their defense really never seemed to completely click. They ended up giving up a lot of yards, and a lot of points last season. Hopefully their offense will be able to eat up more of the clock and keep the D off of their heels so much. Returning senior QB, Gunther Faeth, Cameron Barrett returning in the backfield, and transfer Giante Hicks coming in at wide receiver. Without actually having rankings assembled yet, I would think Dixie would still have to be towards the bottom of the NKY top 10, at best, until they have a chance to prove otherwise.

Although I'm pulling for Campbell to turn it around, they've got a lot of work to do to improve from last year. I've heard people are excited about their younger players, but I think they will struggle winning, especially against 6a schools, with young players. I think Holy Cross with their backfield could/should break the top 10. Good luck this season.

I think they all have a lot coming back so based on that you have to have the top 6A schools listed at the top of the list. I really don't know who has what so I just go with the normal suspects. Best guess:

NCC's skill players are better than advertised. I like them in the 7 spot. Hopefully their strengths are exploited instead of a boring low scoring scheme.

The Barker kid returns after sitting out his soph year due to injury. He'll help the Colonels as well.

I like holy cross at number 7. 23 seniors this year a lot of returning starters. They are the most experienced team in NKY 2a and deserve to be in NKY top 10 I think. Their defense is going to be much improved this year and their running game will be very scary also.

Gunther Faeth graduated, so one big issue is finding a new Qb.
