I find it amusing that a number of posters on here making a big deal about the plagiarism are going to end up voting for Clinton.

 

I agree it isn't that big of a deal. However, I can't help but wonder what the reaction would be if Hillary or Bill make the same mistake.

Yes and no. Obviously speech writers are not administrators / bureaucrats. However, the fact that this did happen and on top of other mismanagement of the campaign by Trump does create doubt about his ability to administer and manage as president.

 

The choice of Sarah Palin by McCain was a major blow against McCain for me. His choice of her as VP created a lot of doubt about his ability for me. That poor decision-making and vetting process by McCain was more of a concern for me than Sarah Palin being the VP.

I know one thing is that if this Amway Conven....um... I mean Republican National Convention is an example of how the majority of the general public honestly gets charged up by the exaggerated tone and buzz phrases from all the speakers, whether or not I contribute to the furthering of the species, I'm signing up for that mission to Mars.

 

There's no doubt that the Democratic National Convention will also prove to be equally as CHEESE BALL.

 

So that I don't feel so alone in our culture, please somebody here from either side of the fence express how they too CRINGE when observing this display of bizarre human behavior.

 

I suppose as an "American" I'm supposed to think that this is the way that I should feel and act regarding our upcoming election, and though it's certainly important to me, there is no way in hell that I could ever behave this way and not feel that I'm being ridiculously pretentious and nauseatingly annoying.

 

Sure, the convention is all over the news, and it's being dissected here to the Nth degree, but honestly are some of you people the very same type of people that could see yourself as a jumping sign waving audience member at this type of gathering while verbally chanting, echoing, and applauding a speaker when he's talking in such a way that would indicate that the candidate that he is supporting is some kind of Superman who is going to lead us all to our salvation?

 

Please tell me that some of you are not this common.

I'm surprised to see several chalking the plagiarism up to mere coincidence. The odds of that are impossibly high to non-existent. I imagine an amateur speechwriter Googled past speeches by spouses, highlighted the lines by Michelle Obama, then they got mixed into the speech through some degree of sloppiness. It doesn't speak to a well-oiled machine over there and a college freshman writing a term paper would know better.

 

But, if none of Trump's other statements and controversies sunk him, I doubt plagiarism will be the one to do it. I think it's an issue much more important to professional writers and "elites," which are the exact sort of people Trump's core supporters revile.

 

I didn't watch it all, but I think the worst moment of the night was the speaker who told an interviewer after his speech that Obama is a Muslim and is working for the "other side." Four years ago that would have been a big controversy coming out of a convention night, but it's just another notch in this election's belt of absurdities and not unsurprising considering the major propagator of birther conspiracies is the nominee.

 

I caught parts of Rudy's speech and I guess it did it's job of riling up the crowd. I'm so detached from that sort of rhetoric at this point I couldn't imagine it firing me up.

 

I doubt I'll watch much tonight. This is such a bizarre election it's made me a political nihilist. None of this matters anymore. :lol2:

I can understand that to a degree. My thought process is how many people were really tasked with vetting her speech? My guess is not many. Maybe that is the issue. Maybe more people should've had eyes on her speech. To me though, I wouldn't think twice about vetting her speech if I were Donald or his top advisers.

 

Now I may vet the speech Ted Cruz is going to give because he could go off the rails against Donald but I wouldn't think I need to vet Donald's wife.

 

It's possible I'm looking at this all wrong but to me, her speech and what appears to be some "cribbing" isn't an indictment of Donald or his campaign to me. It's an indictment of the speech writer.
