STAMFORD, Conn. — WWE has suspended Joe Anoa`i (Roman Reigns) for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the company’s talent wellness policy.

Reigns issued a statement on Twitter regarding his suspension:

I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE’s wellness policy. No excuses. I own it.

Roman Reigns suspended

I assume this isn't a joke?

And is violation of the wellness program code for Steroid/PED use?

Suspending him for PEDs would seem to be against their business model.

I'm ignorant of the situation, but after just a quick skimming of the wellness program, I would say there is some type of substance abuse, be it narcotics or PEDs. Otherwise, maybe he didn't renew his individual health care, which is a breach of contract.

Thanks for trying to come up with something.

When it comes to the WWE, even discipline is part of the show.

I haven't been a loyal fan like I was in my formative years, but this seems like the type of thing they'll try to sweep under the rug before we get any type of explanation.

Couple of observations:

1) Did WWE know about this prior to Money In The Bank, and if so, is that why Reigns dropped the title?

2) Suspension is over July 21st. Battleground is on the 24th, but the WWE Draft is on the 19th. Will be interesting to see how WWE handles Reigns' involvement with both.

The Wellness Policy has been in place for a decade now.

Is it explained anywhere?

Billy Gun who was a trainer at the performance center was suspended and terminated a few months ago for using PED's.

Konnor just returned from a 60 day suspension of the wellness policy this week.

They've released all suspensions publicly since 2007, and they knew about it but they do allow them to hold off so they can drop the title.

Not a good look for a guy they're trying to force as the face of the company who has received backlash from the fans before this. The internet wrestling community is having a field day with this.

IMO you can't put the belt back on him at battleground. Not a good look if you have a guy like Dean Ambrose who the crowd actually supports as the champ and you basically have him hold the belt until Reigns gets back from his punishment because he violated the wellness policy which I'm assuming is either pot or roids.

Give Ambrose the ball and he will run with it.
