Honestly I really feel bad for Newport and Coach Snapp. I think he has done a great job the last several years with that program and now his top returning starter after losing a good group of seniors now transfers out. Makes it tough for Snapp in my honest opinion.

I agree, sadly Newport is one of the toughest jobs around.

Hollis, Mullins, and Covington were all kicked off Newport's team near the end of last season. Hollis was no longer a member of Newport's team and that is why he is now at Holmes. The spin about his "residence" is not relevant, he wasn't playing at Newport again.

See the box score from the KHSAA site. Hollis was not on the team for Newport's final game vs CovCath.

As a Holmes graduate, I'm both concerned and disappointed in Listerman to "accept" Hollis after what happened at Newport. Hopefully Listerman has spoken with Snapp and found out why Hollis, Mullins, Covington were dismissed late in the season.

Wow! Why attack the kid?

Hollis was kicked off Newport's team late last season. That is what @Wildcats1 is saying.

I don't know what happened at Newport but sadly, in most of these cases if a kid can play and has talent, he will get a 2nd and sometimes 3rd chance at that school or another school.

No second chances at Newport. Snapp dismissed Hollis, end of story. That is why it concerns me that Listerman is so willing to let Hollis play for Holmes.

There were more second, third, fourth chances handed out at Newport because those kids were needed in order for them to be successful. No different than it has been at Holmes over the last how many years as well.

It seems like Hollis has been suspended or kicked off of every team since middle.

It's all about consistency. LOL

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Mclendon transfer was 3 yrs ago from Holy Cross to Holmes after Holy Cross lost 6 seniors to graduation. Think he knew they would be down the next year and Holmes was loaded with James Bolden and Co.

Didn't Marcus Mullins go from Newport to Holmes then back to Newport? How can that be explained?

Now this kid goes from Newport to Holmes after Newport graduates their star players? Just seems to fishy to me I mean come on. I guess it isn't for sports it's for academics.

McClendon would've never been at HC if it weren't for Andre being a varsity assistant. I consider you a good friend so I won't go in to details but let's not forget Markel was at Holmes before he ended up at HC for 2 years...same with Christian being a Holmes kid before going to HC.

I don't know much about the Mullins situation but my understanding was he was at Holmes his freshman year and simply ended up at Newport his senior year because his off the court issues forced Coach L and the staff to remove him not only from the program, but also the school.

Again, Holmes has lost more kids over the years than they've gained (since Booher/Listerman took over) so how can anyone consider this or anything they are doing "fishy?"

The current administation isn't going to stand for off the court issues like some of the previous administrators did. You add Steffan Greene to last year's team (Was denied admission to Holmes and instead ended up finishing at Newport the year prior) along with Marcus Mullins to go with McClendon and Holmes is the best team in the region.

Rico Hollis MOVED to Covington and will be given an opportunity to be a good STUDENT/athlete and if things don't work out a similar outcome will happen that we saw with Coach Snapp/Newport.

We can go back and forth on the McClendon situation and will agree to disagree on why he was at HC and why he left. I do know that he was able to transfer to Holmes without sitting out a year after he played varsity at HC, however on the girls side, Deja Turner leaves Holmes to come back to HC for her junior year but sits out a year according to KHSAA rules...teams, schools, fans will always "spin" things according to their situation as we all know.

Oh by the way, nothing against you at all Walter as you know I consider you a good friend as well. I'm just stating and bringing up points that a lot of other people had as well concerning this topic. Best of luck to the Hollis kid and the Bulldogs.
