South Point, OH vs Johnson Central Predictions

Featured Replies

I havent heard what type of qb smith is... is he a pocket passer or a scrambler? If he can pass, that might help him a little, but if he is a scrambler, then he is going to have a very rough night.

He is more of a scrambling QB! He is a very effective runner as well as thrower.

Does he have much of a supporting cast? (recievers, tight ends, running backs)

No overall this team will be weak again. Or if things go the way they are predicted they will be weak again.

I would take JC's defensive unit over a a good qb any day.

JCHS didn't get much of a test this past week, but they sure looked in midseason form on Friday. I don't know much about South Point, so I have to pick the KY school.

JC will be ready. There will probably be some rebutal on this post... Johnson Central has the best coached team in the state. Matney, Reeves, Burchett, Cook, Patterson... the list goes on. However, coaching can go only so far, but something tells me that this years team wants to leave there mark on JC history. And believe me, they have the team to do it.

South Point is not regarded as a powerful football team. If Johnson Central is as good as advertised, they will not be tested – and should be able to name the score.

There are no "for sures" in football. JC may have not win another game the rest of the year. I dont think that will be the case. One thing that matney did, and it was a great idea... is letting the second string play the enitre 4th quarter. Hopefully the injury bug wont bite this year. If the second string gets to play like that in some more games, that is going to mighty helpful for the depth chart.

I think Johnson Central will have their way with South Point. However, the thing that intrigues me the most is how JK Ratliff will play. With all of the attention the South Point QB is getting, I wonder if there will be any college scouts in attendance. If that is the case, it could be a great opportunity for JK to begin to make a name for himself in the eyes of some colleges.

Now, before some of you begin to jump my case for saying that Ratliff is a top college prospect...that is not what I am saying. However, he does have a college frame (6'4 or 6'5") and a really strong arm. This could be a plus or it could be a negative depending on how he responds to the pressures of having scouts in the stands if there are any there.

Does anyone from JC have any knowledge of colleges which have indicated they will be in attendance?

If anybody thinks your crazy, I'm more crazy, because I believe J.K. has the perfect body to be big time. I haven't seen him behind center enough to know what his limits are but he has the athletic 6'4 frame that most kids dream of having. The other kid who has that kind of body is Blake Johnson. JC is loaded with good young talent, too many to name. If you work hard anything is possible but as you can see from last year in Ron Blume you need to have a D-1 body to go along with D-1 skills .

I think we're all a little crazy that way. In 8th grade, when he was on, he was the best pure passer I'd seen at that age. You don't see an 8th grader throw 20 yard bullets or 50 yard perfect spirals consistently, but he was as close as I ever saw. Tall and lanky, it was obvious to me that he was most effective dropping back or rolling out. Unlike the last couple years, he's in an offense where he can be very effective handing off (albeit creatively at times), or dropping back, or moving around a little to pass. Many good quarterbacks have to carry a team, but JK is surrounded by talent so he can concentrate on his fundamentals rather than running for his life and improvising. Because he has many options and a surrounding cast, he'll never set passing records (well, never say never), but he's definately gonna draw attention from the next level, and probably D1. He's intelligent too, which is always a nice quality for a QB. JC's QB is under the radar right now, and his 2 for 10 at North Laurel wasn't at all his fault. Almost every pass was right on (a little short on the interception), but you gotta catch 'em. The Belfry scrimmage had 10 or 15 of the prettiest passes you'll ever see a HS QB throw.

You are right on the money. 10 to 15 throws per game may be the max he will get in this offense so he needs to make the most of his opportunities. I look forward to watching him this season as he matures. It will be fun.

I have known JK since he was 3 (I know him as Justin) and he is a great kid. It has been a pleasure watching him grow up and I look forward to watching him play this year.
