9th Region Tournament Venue Change

Featured Replies

Everyone enjoyed the facilities at Newport Veterans Memorial Park, that the Semi-Finals and Finals are going to be played on NewCath's home field

Tuesday

5:30 Boone Co/Highlands

7:30 Ryle/Notre Dame

Finals Thursday 6:00

Great spot for the games, and A+ to the NCC folks working all angles of the venue from announcing, to ticket taking, to concessions!!

Was this originally going to be played tomorrow at NKU?

Yes.

NKU, for the future is looking bleek.

Why is that?

1. No more playing on Memorial Day.

2. Semi-Finals have to start at 4:15, because no lights.

3. Not fan friendly.

4. Not worth the money to play there.

5. Coaches not very fond of playing there.

I'm sure there are more reasons, but I've got to shower and get to bed.....been a VERY LONG DAY!

Pretty good assessment...too bad that there isn't enough political pull in NKY to get NKU to realize what a rock solid recruitment tool this could be...(not referring to softball necessarily).

You could pair this Memorial Day tournament with some guided tours, maybe even get NKU softball (I'm sure there are some players around) to show around the campus and complex. Great PR move.

I get that NKU has to have some $$$ to run things, but as usual, they go overboard and make it not about any sense of community or service, just strictly about the cash.

A shame that KY tax dollars go to put this place together and keep it running and they can't give a little back to the local community in the form of an even price break....

Liked it a lot better when it was 5 buildings and lots of parking....

How easy is it to change venues for a region tourney? Does the KHSAA have to approve it?

Very easy, it took less than 10 minutes........three of the four winning coaches said they would rather play here (NewCath), went and asked Notre Dame & St. Henry in between innings of their game and they said YES. Called NKU and told them, they were fine with it.

Also, the Media was SUPER impressed with the media set-up......air conditioned pressbox, with a stocked fridge and all the hot dogs, hamburgers, & Pompilios Italian Sausage sandwiches they could eat.

That is a very, very nice set up. Kudos to the NCC staff.

Much better venue than NKU. And light which is nice. Kudos to the NCC staff who worked tirelessly pre game and in between games. I must say it was nice seeing LB13 working his tail off. And yes the Pompilios sausages were awesome.

Just a couple things and this is not to put down the place at all. A warning track would be nice. Irons from Ryle smacked the fence pretty good on Baughs drive to center. She was still a little shaky an inning or two later. Adding some clay in the batters box would maybe help the deep holes. Both not something that is a quick fix and more of a next year thing. But other than that, much nicer place.

Great job by all the volunteers who have put this together on such short notice!!!

Little advise to the 9th region peeps, when you have the idea to use/rent/have an event at a college or university facility, dont. Multiple experiences with it in multiple sports, it just doesn't work out well.

Im thinking that 9th Region tourney needs to rotate between a select few venues. NCC, St Henry and Dixie. All 3 venues have lights and have ample parking.

Or Florence Freedom...it can be done.

Will have to agree to disagree about Dixie. Phenomenal playing Surface but both Home & Visitor Stands are less than be desired. Poorly designed!
