Tyler Eifert undergoing ankle surgery, expected to undergo 3 month recovery

Featured Replies

This is one of the more ridiculous stories I have heard of. Forget blaming the Pro Bowl. There's not an excuse I can think of for a multi-million dollar company(Bengals) to not have been on top of his ankle way more than they were. How can your second best receiver and best tight end injure his ankle in January and just now be getting surgery? Is this real? And people want to blame the Pro Bowl? Screw that. Blame the person who was at the March checkup on Tyler that said "come back in a month and we'll see where you are at." He should have had surgery in February and if the Bengals knew what they were doing he would have had it in February. Forget the Pro Bowl, Bengals fans should be picketing at the stadium as we speak. This is inexcusable.

I'm with you, how and where he got hurt doesn't matter. If the injury occurred in January and hadn't healed by March, something should have been done in late March or even early April. To wait until late May is just stupid.

We don't know all the facts, but if you were Tyler, wouldn't you say something to the staff? "Hey, this isn't healing and I'm starting to get concerned" Maybe he did and the staff downplayed it.

Either way, the Bengals medical staff dropped the ball on this one and someone should be held accountable.

I really hope Boyd can get it done in the middle. I have a feeling Robert will always be a "what if" type. Medical staff should be held accountable.

As expected, the Cincinnati Bengals are not expected to have Tyler Eifert to start the 2016 NFL season.

Eifert, who is recovering from offseason ankle surgery, is now expected to miss the first month of the season as he targets a return in Weeks 4-6, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. Rapoport is adding that it’s possible Eifert could push to be back in Week 3 when the Bengals play the defending Super Bowl champion Broncos for Cincinnati’s home opener.

3 month recovery would've put his return back at the end of August.

Is it just me or are almost all Bengals players out much longer than the anticipated recovery time from injuries?

Considering he should have had surgery in February, yes. But it is Cincy area doctors in general, look at the Reds and some of those players.

Yeah Joey Votto has never been the same since his knee injury.

In general he is right in terms of the bengals. The Bengals doctor seems to be consistently wrong on timeliness of injuries for players.

Do you think the player has no say so in whether to go ahead and get the surgery?

Or they are feeding the media what they want to hear/best case scenario.

Players from other teams come see some of the cincy docs for surgery. Guess they aren't very well informed. If only they read BGP.
