So you think Trumps Muslim ban is outrageous?

Times Square Bomber Sentenced to Life in Prison | Fox News

I support a ban on inbound travel by non-citizen Muslims. Here is an account by Faisal Shahzad, who attempted to ignite a car bomb in Times Square in 2010. Shahzad took an oath of allegiance to the USA in the coarse of becoming a US Citizen.

Some quotes:

A defiant Faisal Shahzad smirked as he was given a mandatory life term that, under federal sentencing rules, will keep him behind bars until he dies.

"If I'm given 1,000 lives I will sacrifice them all for the life of Allah," he said at the start of a statement that lasted several minutes. "How can I be judged by a court that does not understand the suffering of my people?"

"We are only Muslims ... but if you call us terrorists, we are proud terrorists and we will keep on terrorizing you," he said.

He added: "We do not accept your democracy or your freedom because we already have Sharia law and freedom."

The judge cut him off at one point to ask if he had sworn allegiance to the United States when he became a citizen last year.

"I did swear but I did not mean it," said Shahzad.

"So you took a false oath," the judge told him.

She also reminded him that he was a failed terrorist.

"What you have done here, although happily, the training you sought in making bombs was unsuccessful and you were unsuccessful in your effort to kill many Americans," she said.

Asked by the judge if he had any final words, Shahzad said, "I'm happy with the deal that God has given me."

Yes, I do.

I have absolutely no issue with properly vetted Muslim refugees.

Trump has not called for a ban on properly vetted Muslims. He has called for a ban on basically all that are not properly vetted. I support his view that we should ban all Muslims that have not been properly vetted. The left likes to omit the truth alot. Maybe if you would actually listen to what he says you might vote for him mcpapa.

JJ, I think you may want to revisit his platform.

Donald Trump: Ban all Muslim travel to U.S. - CNNPolitics.com

It's beyond outrageous and embarrassing that a presidential nominee of our country would say something like that and possibly try to enforce something like that if put in charge of our country.

Jimmy Carter did it back in the 70's, no vetting or anything...blocked travel to the US by nearly all people from his black list of countries.

As far as Trump position...reading Hellcats Link here is a direct quote, not the edited snippet that some keep rehashing...

Donald J. Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on
The Bolded is almost always omitted when this is brought up by his opponents it seems.

Remember this was back in December right after the Paris attacks...he said shut it down until we can figure out what is going on and verify those coming in aren't coming to harm Americans.

Again with the pesky facts JD.

It's beyond outrageous and embarrassing that a presidential nominee of our country would say something like that and possibly try to enforce something like that if put in charge of our country.

I also find it beyond outrageous and embarrassing that a presidential nominee of our country is under investigation by the FBI.

I don't remember that but I missed significant parts of the 70's. :D

Perhaps Trump should just have named several specific countries rather than a religion.

That's a bit misleading, JD. A wholesale ban on a religion (Trump's suggestion) versus people from a country predominantly Muslim isn't the same.

What has changed in our nation? Following the largest terrorist attack against our nation ever there was an influx of Muslim immigrants that was supported by the W adminstration, but today we are afraid. I don't get it.

15 years of attacks. Social media detailing every attempt, successful or not. ISIS. Take your pick.

Well he was talking about Syrian Immigrants during that time frame, but even if it were worded to ban just Syrians or people from any country I think you'd still have an issue with it.

As far as what has changed, well the way terrorist have evolved over the last decade is one thing. Using immigrants as a cover to get terrorist into France and other countries is their current M.O.

But to get back to the original point, all Trump was saying was let's make sure we know what we are doing before allowing anyone else in the country. He was basically calling for a cautious approach and even later cleared up the statement, but all many remember is the first half of the statement I quoted above.

It's a sound bite that most on the left know is inaccurate but they keep playing it over and over knowing most are too lazy to see what was said or what context it was said in.

Nope, he was talking about all initially not just Syrians. But you are correct Don changed his stance to it was "just a suggestion."

He's probably changed hardline again after the EgyptAir disaster.

I agree it's social media largely, but there is a great deal of responsibility at the feet of blowhards who should not be creating hysteria.

That is definitely very very weird if not troubling as well.

Perhaps Trump should just have named several specific countries rather than a religion.

In order for that to happen he would not have to promote division and prejudiced behavior.
