Should high school teachers and administrators be drug tested?

I can think of pros and cons.

What do you think?

You might lose a lot of the younger teachers entering into the school system with this policy.

If they're showing up to work and doing the job well, I don't see why we should bother.

On Marijuana alone I could see a minimum of 10% of teachers getting washed out and that estimate is probably low.

If the the school is CCH and has a policy for all students I would think for consistency purposes they should. Hard to send a message to kids if adults aren't held to a similar standard.

If it's mandatory for students then absolutely yes.

I also see good and bad...personally I have no problem with it.

If we are going to start drug testing everybody, I think we should start with anyone who is on the government's dime first. That includes elected officials on down to those on food stamps.

This following statement comes from a guy who thinks all drugs should be legal , but I didn't realize teachers weren't tested. Out of all the proffesions while they are illegal that would be at the top of my list to test or near the top.

I'm in this camp.

No, one of the best teachers I had in High School was stoned off his rocker 9 out of 7 days a week.

To be fair based on this reasoning why drug test the students because you are going to have to punish more than 10% .

Several districts have teachers in a random pool already.

Just sticking with Marijuana, most of the research that is out there is pretty solid that young brains (let's say under 25) should not be ingesting Marijuana.

As for the adults, they are adults. But I still think 10% is a low estimate for the adults.
