Im not saying you are a nut job, but they do think that people who ignore this are nuts. I am saying that they think that there is a huge problem and would be very open to this. I agree there is a huge problem and something needs to change. But I do agree neither side is changing the views.

Explain how it would happen? Because it's not rationally feasible.

They can be serious and still not be smart.

Again I ask the question not being raised by their passion. How does that work? Who moves to what new area? Does the US re-enact the India/Pakistan split of the late 1940's?

It's nice a D 1 Coach has purchased a large parcel and they're ready to fight. So how does the guy who makes less money make his fight? Who picks up and moves their investments to the "other side."

Again, a lot of talk by a lot of people, but no one wants to do the work our forefathers did to win over the population and win the elections to change the nation rather than destroy it.

Hatz you are not getting it. They think you are as crazy as you say they are. They think that the country is being destroyed which I agree with. They just think that its either divide or let the bullets fly sooner or later.

I dont have those answers nor am I endorsing it.

Not what I said at all. I said that the narrative about Obama is that he is "brilliant", an "academic scholar", perhaps the "most intelligent President ever". This was pounded into us by the media talking heads during both election cycles. I am saying that if it were true, Obama would have no issue with having those records made public. His ego would demand the release so that the press and America could bask in his intellectual greatness. Since he refuses to release them, I'd say they likely refute that narrative rather than support it. But I guess that is just me being "silly" and "moronic".

The moronic statement was the lame "blame it on Bush" line.

The silly statement is saying that because some think he is highly intelligent while others like you are not sure or have doubts that he should appease our curiosity/hope/doubt/cynicism even though it has no bearing on ANYTHING.

We do NOT need to see academic records. If a university says the person graduated from their academic institution that's all that matters. All I need is the check mark.

If Yale says President Bush graduated from there I'm good. I don't care if he had a 4.0 or a 2.0 I don't need details. You shouldn't either.

I think you are the one not getting it Jesse.

You don't get the logistics of this notion.

I didn't call them crazy. I said they are lazy.

Still, no answer to my question: Why can't the passionate people (which these friends seem to be) work harder to change the leadership? Why must Civil War or some fantasy of mutually agreed secession take place?

Logistics are the key to any movement and all I am hearing is disgruntlement. No plan of "How to effect" the separation or effectively create a new republic.

You can get this kind of talk at any barber shop, faculty lounge, bar or basketball tournament.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but I'm failing to grasp the point you're trying to make...So people are angry, they're radicals, we get that, but what's the point of this little anecdote you're telling?

To the bolded, because they're radicals. And radicals always resort to violence and force as the first option.

I get your thought process. I listened to theirs. They are tired as is alot of Americans. But for you to discount this as garbage is not smart on your part. As a matter of fact it makes it look like you are above this thought process. England did the same thing once upon a time. See how that worked.

Ok, so the class Valedictorian and the GED certificate earner should get the same consideration and be viewed as equals when they apply to colleges and then for jobs?

You know what they call the graduate who finishes dead last in their class in Med school? 'Doctor'. But do you want that "doctor" performing your open heart or brain surgery, or would you prefer having the one who finished at the top of the class doing it?

I should not even have told this story. Wrong thread to do so altogether. If anyone has a different opinion as any of you its like people are labeled "nutjobs" or are stupid. Im out.

Really. Is that what Abolitionists did? Is that what the Civil Rights Movement in America did or the Indian Independence movement in the early 20th century?

I think it depends upon the radicals and the heart of what they are trying to accomplish, don't you?

Come on, wanting to secede from the United States is a crack-pot idea. We can't really be debating whether it's a realistic rational thought, can we?

Never labeled you or them that. I said lazy at worst. Nice try to deflect though.

Touche. Point taken, although I don't know if I would call those groups radicals. Maybe, gulp, Progressives?

Either way, I'm in agreement with you. :thumb:

Where did I say it was garbage. I said it was lazy. It also doesn't make rational sense how it would work, does it?

So instead of discussing those logistics the argument is to now bring the English Civil War into it? Or do you mean the Magna Charta?

I'm not above any thought process you describe but my faith teaches me to not react with malice or vengeance or impunity as the plan of these associates describes. I also have a pretty good handle on history that I've cited but no one has spoken about. The Reagan Revolution (really the successful version of the Goldwater Revolution) shows how a bloodless change can happen but it is hard work.
