Education has turned into such a business that we assume teachers only care about their students scoring well enough on testing to get grants from the government. All but a handful of teachers I know care about way more than grades.

As you know, one of my favorite expressions goes like this:

And I will defend my son and what he does (English professor) with my last breath.

Obviously he's trying to ignite the ire of conservatives, but he's correct that real conservatism may be just as dead as Nazi thought at the end of WWII.

I too have close friends and relatives who are college professors and I see what they do, I've seen it for 40 years. Based on my personal experiences I think very little of the profession and no, I don't believe they hold real jobs. And as for stooping low, I think it's mild compared to what this pillar of the profession has said.

This type of thought process is so silly and repeated by both sides over and over. When Bush won back to back elections the Democrat party was dead.

 

Obama wins Republicans are dead. Then Republicans go on to take back the House and Senate , most Governor mansions and state legislatures.

Teachers have a hard and thankless job and unfortunately see things that would break most our hearts on a daily basis. I truly believe that most teachers are there to serve the kids, but just like there are bad cops for instance...there are bad teachers as well, even though the number for both is in the vast minority. Teachers that are worth a dime keep politics and religion out of their classrooms...and if it is mentioned as part of the curriculum leave their personal beliefs at the door and teach in an open way so that no students are alienated due to their beliefs.

 

I could not care less about what a Harvard Law Professor has to say, the disappointing thing is that he is probably spouting those same beliefs in his class. I think the point being made about him not holding a "Real Job" is more about never holding a job in the private sector and seeing how the majority of us actually live.

You're missing the point of what I said, and it has nothing to do with the left. Republicans mashed down Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, and the rest of the evangelical conservatives. The nomination of Trump really means that social issues are not as big a deal to republican as many on the far right want to make them.

He should treat it like a job and teach free thought instead of trying to indoctrinate a captive audience.
