Thanks again, Aviator. We appreciate you putting this together... each year.

You're welcome. I enjoy doing it. Hard to believe it's already that time again!

To all the BGPers out there, once things get started, I'll need some help keeping the brackets updated. Please submit scores at the website or post here. Both tournaments should be good ones and I'm looking forward to hearing the results.

Is there a favorite to win it ?

I think it is wide open. A case could be made for about 5 teams.

Which 5?

Highlands should have a legit shot at winning this one. I am not familiar with some of the other teams though. Can anyone shed some light? From what I have read Beechwood should be favorite on the left side and CovCath/SK/Highlands all legit on right.

All is subject to change depending on what teams bring down freshman that played JV or in some cases played varsity all year.

Not saying one way is right or wrong. But what’s the purpose of the tournament? Are we looking for the best “freshman Team” or the best “freshman Class”?

Some teams bring their freshman class. Some just bring the guys that played freshmen all year.

What’s the reasoning for bring them down to play? To give them the best chance to Win? What’s the reasoning for not bring them down to play? Not to upset parents/ players?

Again, not saying one is right or wrong just questions for discussion.

I think the mindset of bringing them down for a tournament is to breed a culture of winning. Winning is contagious.

Good point, and I agree.

I would think you would want your whole freshman class playing at least a few game together in a tournament environment as to showcase them and bring some unity.

I’m sure the JV team will take some of the freshman players after the tournament is over or if they get knocked out.

Which 5?

From what I've seen:

Campbell

Highlands

Ryle

CovCath

Beechwood (if they bring their guys down)

NewCath

I doubt Beechwood brings any Freshmen JV or Freshmen Varsity players down. They may have if some of them moved up and down, but most of the freshmen had never played a freshmen game this year.

I'm a proponent for having all of your freshmen play in the tournaments. I think in Basketball it would have made a difference for Cov Cath and in baseball it would make a difference for Beechwood and Highlands.

Schools rarely bring players down that have played JV the majority of the season.
