Well if you're a 6A school with only one middle school, I'd hope you'd have good numbers in MS.

 

We had two middle schools but combined them when the new high school was built. They had good # then and did very well in the conference playoffs.

They have around 1100 I think in the MS and I believe it's a junior high. The building only has 7th and 8th graders I believe. Their MS team has between 50-60 players I'd say maybe more. They compete against the Scott Co MS (all 3 of them).

I think what GRC is experiencing is cyclical. There have been down years and there will be up years. They have been through a rough couple of years with coaching changes, going against tough schedules, an when teams have a series of rough years sometimes interest does wane for the kids coming in.

 

Like I stated earlier - they have no place to go but up this year. But they have a tough schedule in which to travel.

This decade has been a tough one for the Cardinals. I hope for the kids' sakes that they can turn things around.

When is the last time GRC lost to a private school in the state tournament? It's other public schools that are knocking them out of the running. Not to mention how 2 of the last 3 6A champions were public schools.

 

Trinity beat them in 2012. What's funny is that Clark County actually has a winning postseason record (2-1) all time against private schools, having famously beat both Trinity and St. X in back-to-back weeks to win the 1991 state championship.

I hadn't realized that they had only lost once to a private school. In my opinion that just makes it even more ridiculous to blame declining participation on private schools.

Look at the last 40 years of football in Kentucky. Anything stick out as........odd for lack of a better term. You do not have to be beaten by a private school to realize if you make it to the last game chances are your going to play one. The number of championships are staggering and not unnoticed. Come on its like a white elephant in the room everybody looks at and says, " What elephant" ! Rant over!

The KHSAA announced that Kentucky has seen an overall increase in football participation. Unless there are data that 6A alone is seeing a reverse of this trend I continue to doubt that private schools are the reason for GRC's declining numbers.
