Sam Bradford tells Eagles he wants to be traded

Featured Replies

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Eagles quarterback has told the team he wants to be traded, and that he won’t be showing up to any more offseason activities.

Of course, the $17.5 million a year contract the Eagles gave him this offseason stuck out like a sore thumb the minute they traded for the right to draft Carson Wentz, considering they also paid trusted Doug Pederson-stable-pony Chase Daniel in free agency as well.

So now we have to see if the Eagles will blink, and whether quarterback-needy teams such as the Broncos or 49ers value Bradford beyond the guys they already have on their rosters.

Is Bradford worth anywhere near 17.5 million a year?

Is Bradford worth anywhere near 17.5 million a year?

Uh, NOPE. But then again, that seems reasonable compared to many contracts. I'd rather have Fitzpatrick. Bradford would be an upgrade over Sanchez (I think, sorta). Trade Sanchez back to Philly for Bradford???

No.

Paging Mr. Elway.

Is Bradford worth anywhere near 17.5 million a year?

His cap number for this year is 12.5 million, which puts him as the 20th highest paid QB for 2016, right ahead of Osweiler, Tannehill, Foles, and Winston and right behind Andy Dalton. Next year his cap number goes up 18 million and a 4 million dollar roster bonus if the Eagles don't cut him before March of 2017. I'd say he's worth what he's getting paid for this year, and essentially only 18 of the 35 million total contract value is guaranteed. He's basically only on a one year deal, and with the Eagles moving up to take a QB, he knows he'll never see the non guaranteed portion of the contract, which is why he's upset.

I'd imagine any team that traded for him would have to guarantee that second year for him to agree to it. He's stuck....he's got no leverage on the Eagles to force them to trade him, and if he sits out voluntarily he gets nothing. The Eagles are have plenty of cap room to eat the 12 million they owe him for this year. Bradford's best bet is to try to play play his way into a job for 2017.

What a cluster and thanks rjs.

From my perspective, Bradford is literally stealing from the Eagles. He hasn't done anything to deserve that contract. In the old days, this guy would be grateful for the fat contract and wouldn't worry about some rookie. He'd show up and compete for that job.

He's almost untradeable at that salary.

The only way they get rid of him is cut him loose, but then they get nothing in return.

I know the media narrative was that Chip Kelly had close to complete control over the Eagles' personnel decisions while he was there. They made a lot of big moves last year in the offseason and we all chalked it up to Chip being too meddlesome. But since he's left the befuddling moves continue. I now wonder if the Eagles organization as a whole isn't a major mess.

Trade him to Cleveland....they only throw dog treats at you there. They throw batteries in Philly.

Wow just saw $26 mil guaranteed, so cutting him is not really an option.

On the other hand, I'm assuming if he doesn't show up for work he doesn't get paid.

He may be one of the most overpaid players in league history. I heard today he has made $78MM in his career and has thrown 78 TD passes...now that is funny.

If he performs well enough to justify his contract, he won't have to worry about a rookie eventually taking his job.

He and his agent just need to quit whining.
