IMO, you can reread the newspaper article but don't take everything it says as "gospel". It presents the argument of Mr. Katz. It states that the documentation from HSJ shows that Billy left there as an eighth grader. I am familiar with the document that Mr. Katz is most likely using. It was generated by HSJ earlier this year. However, the documents generated at the relevant time (October, 2002) clearly indicate otherwise.

Yep, and at Rose Hill, even if you've completed the 3rd grade, if we don't have enough chairs in the 4th, it is quite common to either promote you to 6th where there is a surplus of seating, or, more commonly, demote you to K5 which most students don't mind due to the fact that we still get to take an afternoon nap:sleep: . So you see, Bill's problem really does stem from the lack of folding chairs!!!!!!!!!

Please keep in mind that "documents" refer to anything in writing. A letter is a document just as are school applications, KHSAA forms, etc. I don't want to imply that there are two documents of equal materiality that are in conflict because that is not the case. As I said above, documents generated at the relevant time obviously should carry more weight than documents generated over three years later.

I'm suprised that there is an audio tape included in the evidence. That one is the mystery to me. Is it real or is it Memorex?

I am thinking this will open up Walker to play a year of prep school ball then declare for the draft. The NBA doesn't want that to happen, but there is a good chance it will.

Here is all you need to know. Huntington St. Joe had to sign off on Bill Walker's transfer papers before he was eligable at Rose Hill. This would not have been necessary if Walker was in the 8th grade. Period, end of story.

Bottom line ... Walker's "family/advisers" are the root cause of all this. All the moving around and switching schools makes a good case for the perception of instability and a desire to skirt the rules when they see fit.

You should invest in some recliners for sports sake. Sounds like Bill didn't stay long enough for it to bother him, one way or the other.

As usual, Rickyp is concise- and correct. The fact that HSJ had to sign off for eligibility is definite evidence of the applicable grade level.

In the grand scheme of things does this really hurt Bill's chances of playing in college or the NBA? He has dominated at the high school level so let him go to Prep School, play one year at a college....preferably UK...and then go on to the riches of the NBA.

Although we will all agree that UK could use Billy, I don't believe there is any chance he would go there. The prep school route is his best bet for now. His value, already enormous, will be enhanced at a good prep school. He would have gained little or nothing playing again at NCH. The question all should ask now is if Ovinton will return to NCH. My thought is that he should not. NCH, by its own admission, has filled its treasure chest which, most would agree, was its main objective.

 

All in all, I believe both Billy and Ovinton are better off if they are away from NCH. It is unfortunate that they were ever brought there. Huntington High would have been a much better choice if a move had to be made.

It won't hurt their earning power (Marshall plays a decent schedule) and they could play in front of their families and friends.
