Ohio All-Stars 94 Kentucky All-Stars 92

To be fair it was an exhibition game. Three platoons makes it tough to really get into the flow of a game.

I understand that, but I'm only going by what I saw tonight. It was a good game though!

Of all the players you mentioned from Ohio, I was only impressed by Ward. No one else really did anything special but that's just my opinion.

Ward was tough but as physical as he was, I felt Weyer more than held his own defensively.

Ben won't see anyone during his career at Bellarmine as big and strong as Ward is.

Xavier Simpson and Jon Teske, defensively, were really impressive for Ohio tonight. Simpson v Goodin was a really good match up. Michigan is getting a very solid duo with the two.

Carson played very well inside but eventually Ohio's talent and depth prevailed. Him combined with Faulkner and Jalen Tate gives NKU a very good trio to start the Jon Brannen Era.

Goodin is going to be really good for Xavier playing along side Edmond Sumner. His quickness and athleticism made him a tough match up all night. Simpson was able to slow him down some but that was about it.

From what I seen of the Ohio team, only a few of the States top players played. But does sound like a good game.

I mean, there were a few guys not there, but Ward, Simpson and Cumberland are the three best players in Ohio for this class. Add in Landers, Teske, Tate and Watson and a good number of the high level guys were playing...

Really enjoyed the whole All Star weekend, great job by the people who put it together

Loved Carson Williams' motor. Never took a play off. What surprised me Was his height which they listed all season at 6'7". Plays much larger than he is. But, he is at least two inches shorter than listed. Unless Ben Weyer has lifts in his shoes, at 6'6" he is a full inch taller than Carson. Very obvious when they stood next to each other multiple times. His athleticism, and bulk will make up for his height, and NKU has found a jewel; but, it is not a 6'7" jewel.

I think these All Star games are good for showcasing talent but the lopsided population advantage of states like Ohio and Indiana over Kentucky ensures that Kentucky will win very few of these games.

Only one I can think of missing off the top of my head was 6'8 Seth Towns of Columbus Northland. Top three players in Ohio played last night.

Would have really liked to see KY last night with Braxton Beverly and Eli Wright added to the mix.

ok. and Beverly and Wright would have helped.

How did Dow look?

IMO there were only two players on the floor we might see in the NBA one day. Nick Ward and John Teske, both going to Big Ten programs. Teske cycled against M. Wilson and completely dominated the defensive paint. At 6'11", there could be a long career for him. A previous post noted that B. Weyer would not face anything like Nick Ward while playing for Bellarmine. I would add, not many college programs at any level will face a beast like him. Tom Izzo is salivating over this recruit, and if he doesn't make the NBA, the New England Patriots might be ready for Gronk's replacement.

Would be very interesting to see rebounds and assists. Goodin to Williams multiple times was pretty impressive. Will repeat my comments all year long, Goodin is a very good ballhandler and penetrator. Needs lots of work on his shot outside the paint to be the whole package. Hope he is a good listener to his coaches, because his talent potential is pretty impressive.

Williams and Goodin were far and away the two best Ky players last night. Obvious, Goodin had a much better supporting cast at TC, than Williams had at OC and that might have been the distinguishing difference to give Williams the nod as POY. So close, hard to choose between them and/or argue the choice. Both conducted themselves as competitive gentlemen. Made us oldtimers proud.

Ward listed as 6-8?

Looks like about 6'5" vs. 6'8" to me. Got to credit Williams, he plays large. Kind of Charles Barkley large.

Also - Oldercoach - I was very appreciative that these were available at the game....
