Considering the number of threads and posts on HRC's dishonesty, one would be inclined to think that many of the posters value honesty and consider it to be a virtue. Clearly this campaign manager lied, claimed he never touched her, and called her delusional. Trump has backed him up on this every step of the way. Nobody seems to care about this lie, and Trump's continuing support of it. Rather than focus on the lie, people simply move along and "focus" on splitting hairs over whether this was an assault, how bad of an assault, the woman's history, etc etc etc.

 

Anything to keep from addressing the simple basic facts that the guy bruised a woman and then lied about it.

Frankly, I'm surprised by the glib reaction to it in this thread (or not, I suppose). I think Hellcats is right that if someone grabbed and slung someone's wife or daughter in this manner they would be met with violence and not a shrug.

 

People are complaining that what he did was not violent enough to warrant being charged. I will defer to guru on that, but I believe if I did the same to a woman I would need a lawyer.

 

First, the security video's very slow frame rate confirms it happened the way she and others said, but it's otherwise poor quality. You can see what you want to see in it. But, Lewandowski said he never touched her, that she was delusional, and the campaign said she was grabbed by security, not staff. Other than the Trump campaign's allergy to truth, this is a strange response from someone who did nothing wrong, no?

 

Second, he jerked her hard enough to leave a hand size bruise on her arm. That does not indicate to me he was being soft or was merely pulling her away. I don't believe this would be treated so lightly in any other scenario. Third, you say if it were so bad others would have reacted, but in the other videos from reporters nearby they do react. You can hear a reporter in one gasp something like "Oh my god! Did Corey do that?" The WaPo reporter next to her can be seen confronting Lewandowski directly afterwards on some videos.

 

As to her motives, she worked for an over-the-top conservative website which had been mostly backing Trump up to this point and took his side in the immediate aftermath. It's since led to turmoil there as their editor quit in protest over it, which is also strange to do over nothing.

 

According to Florida Law it is enough. However, from watching some analysts on Fox News last night (the actual legal analysts, not the Megyn Kelly I hate Trump Female activists although one of them agreed too) they claimed the police have to take the report (I am not sure I agree with that assertion but let's take their word for it), the courts are jammed up with cases like this, and the prosecutor doesn't have to continue with the charge. Judge Napolitano seemed particularly annoyed by the charge and said if a Judge allows it to stand they are not doing their job (or something similar to that).

 

Like I said above, in my world, my experience, my opinion, and in the opinion of many experts I believe, this has no business in a criminal court.

I guess you can call it a lie but if the allegation was that he nearly took her to the ground he knew that was a lie and stuck to his guns meaning his story grew in response to her overblown story to start. Her embellishment from the start makes his statements in defense poisonous tree type stuff if you ask me.

 

As far as the bruise, that is really a shame, but different people bruise at different thresholds. I wouldn't have bruised from that but I know people that would bruise from much much less than that due to genetics or vitamin deficiencies or something similar.

 

Also forgotten in this is he is providing Security to a serious Presidential Candidate. Sometimes Security gets a little rough in a large crowd where you see the person you are supposed to be protecting being slightly startled.

 

There as so so many factors with this case, again, I believe it belongs in civil court.

I agree with your conclusion that this doesn't belong in criminal court, but the reasons why this is a story are because of two facts that are completely contrary to your analysis.

Regardless of the severity (which is up to debate and almost immaterial to me for the court of opinion) the Trump camp's position was not a disagreement of degree, but that he never touched her. Mind you, as Habib mentioned, this is an individual with private access and who they would know by name, let alone the fact that she was working for probably Trump's biggest supporter in the media.

 

2. He is the campaign manager. I understand in the heat of the moment people react and they don't automatically think whether their actions fit their job description, but I have never heard of a campaign manager filling a security role, especially when the actual members of the security team are present.

Sure, and if she turns out to be an "easy bruiser", then that should be taken into account. But for me, the rule remains that men don't need to be doing stuff that causes bruises. Start with the rule, use an exception if necessary.

In this case with Trump being startled it appears to be a breakdown in security if you are Lewandoski and he reacted. Weak stuff lol. He was providing security? C'mon. So he "secured" the one person out of all those others? Why single her out? It wasn't security, it was question-prevention.

 

And the lie was that he didn't touch her. You excuse that blatant lie by saying "he knew that she exaggerated when she said she almost lost her balance" and so he then is entitled to lie because she allegedly did? That makes it even worse for him. Makes his lie even more calculated. And, it's based on an assumption that she did not nearly lose her balance. You want to make allowances for him on the speculation that she is an easy bruiser then you should be open and amenable to the speculation that maybe she was on heels or has an inner ear disorder or just a bad sense of balance. Or are we only going to engage in speculations that serve just one conclusion.

 

Two things that don't have to speculated about are that he grabbed her, and then he lied about it. And he would still be lying about it if it were not for the video (speculation by me )
