Will the mound and homeplate area be turf or dirt?

 

I believe it will be a full turf field like Florence Freedom.

Lol odd, about an hour ago I messaged someone about the progress. I was going to head up this weekend to take some pics to post if there was some progression.

Pitchers and catchers hate playing on turf. I was just talking to a turf maintenance guy from The Motz Group. His advice was that if you are going with turf for your baseball field to go with dirt on the mound and around homeplate. He said those 2 areas, along with the goalie spot for lacrosse are high maintenance and the most patched areas on any turf field. I believe UC's turf field has dirt mound and homeplate, and maybe around the bases.

Just to be clear...I am not being critical of any portion of what Beechwood is doing. Just putting it out there for discussion.

Did they change anything up or go with the same logos before?

I was up there a bit ago and took some pics of the football and baseball fields but the photos are too big to place here on BGP.

 

They have the whole football field complete with the turf itself, they finished the end zones, but now the will add whatever logos and all, so it's too early to tell what they will have. I'll go up in about a week to get some pics if they are finished and post them.

 

In August of 2003 when they installed the first turf they were supposed to put the hash marks per yard in the center of the field as well but being preset for time before the first game, I think it was Holmes, that they left those hash marks out, and got done with the field the morning of the first game.

 

It also looks like they took out that dangerous drop on the end zone near the school, were the back of the end zone meets the track.

 

I thought that no soccer lines were going to be on the football field? There is a grey line from sideline to sideline a few yards from the back of the end zone. It doesn't look bad at app with the grey.

 

The baseball field is all mud, it doesn't look like the have put the drainage in yet, I didn't see any light posts yet.

 

It's going to be a very nice complex that is overdue, and t will be an active place.

On the issue of funding, I just had someone tell me that Beechwood is getting millions from the State of KY for this project.

At Seniors Awards Night last week new Superintendent Stacy was introduced. Prior to his talk, the introduction included the story that on a visit to Frankfort he had discovered that something like $700k of unused bond money was still available to be drawn on their previous capital building project. Kind of a use it, or lose it deal. Didn't take long for that decision to be made!

I was told a lot more than 700K but again I am just repeating what I was told, not claiming it is fact.

Just repeating what was announced to the audience. Have no idea if there other private funds are being injected; considering the extent of the total project $700k does sound on the low side. Impressive project.
